Vice city was the best GTA game for me, with GTA4 a close second. Also for your poll you may want to put more characters in there that aren't from GTA 4, you haven't even put lance vance in there!

GTA4 is the only game in the series I played for more than 10 minutes apart from 2, so I voted for Nico.

I really enjoyed GTA4 at the time. I liked the believable storyline and gritty overtones. But one thing it lacks is replay value. There is very little to do outside of the main storyline and once that game is completed there is very little to compel you to continue exploring the city.

Which was odd considering in the previous GTA games there were secrets to find, stores to rob, graffiti to spray, huge stunts to do. Or just competing in general Zaniness such as parachuting off a mountain, out of a plane or base jumping off a tall building. GTA4 got rid of all this fun stuff and I really thought that was a pity.

My mind was made up a few months later when, on a whim, I purchased Saints Row 2. It had all the brilliant OOT stuff I loved from the previous GTA games complete with all the tongue in cheek humor that I loved. I've clocked up far more hours of SR2 than GTA4 and I continue to play it, even months after finishing the main story because most of the side activities and distractions outside of the main story are fun. It also allows you to go back a re-play any of the storyline missions at any time. Seriously why the hell has GTA4 not got this? There really is no excuse to not allow replaying of single player missions. Its been a staple of gaming for quite some time now and there really is no excuse for not including it.

GTA4 is massive step forward for the concept of 'games as art' but quite frankly I'm not sure if its a price worth paying if it means sacrificing the fun that video games should be. I replayed it after playing SR2 and the normal walking pace and the real physics just made the game seem rather tedious. Quite frankly I think Rockstar can take their quest for 'realism' and shove it up their arse. I'm looking forward to SR3 far more than GTA5.

One of our local gamming mags touched on what Lucius has said,I also find myself enjoying Saints row far more than GTA,the old GTA games brought me hours of joy but as for the new one I would rather play saints row than it.I think its because GTA is sort of trying to present itself more like a gritty crime drama than an accually fun game, for some this is good others like myself find it a bit boring.I also favour by far the level of customization in saints row 2.

Another thing I forgot about. GTA4 is really really damaged by not being able to do anything and I mean anything without having a phone call from you Cousin, friend or annoying git you saved earlier from calling you up every 5 minutes wanting you to go on a man date.

Its totally pointless. For your cousin the only purpose is to get the Taxi bonus which I never used as the whole point of the game is to drive places and getting a Taxi is boring. For that bloke you can save from Playbox X (can't remember his name) there is no point aside from playing on your sense of guilt. The 2nd time I played the game I shot him instead of Playboy X to save myself being constantly interrupted by him, which I think says it all. The only one whom I at least went drinking with occasionally was the Rastafarian guy because at least his call backup bonus was useful.

This in itself wouldn't be so bad if the mini games themselves weren't so utterly dull. I don't want to play pool or darts thanks!

The whole thing is a tedious interruption to the games natural flow and I was disappointed that the didn't get rid of it in Lost and Damned.

I thought the storyline was dull and repetitive. Basicly it consisted of, go here, get through this guys minions, kill him, oh look hes getting away, give chase! again, and again, oh...and again. Oh and if you thought the final mission was going to be any different, guess what?

Standing right behind you...

It's a great game, very realistic and polished but comparing GTA 4 to SR2 is like comparing InFamous to Prototype - the former is more polished, gritty and realistic but lacks replay value whereas the latter may not be as polished but contains lots of lovely extra replay value.

GTA 4 is the best out of the series, with Nico and his cool Italian accent, but there ain't much replay value as with most games nowadays.

Sorry if I came across as overly negative earlier. I don’t want to give the impression that I think that GTA4 is a 'bad' game. Far from it. It looks stunning, the characters are well thought out and the story is compelling. The combat is innovative and I really like the cover system. That I downloaded Lost and Damned the day it came out is testament to the fact I really like this game.

It's just not the flawless masterpiece everyone seem to think it is.

For example non regenerative heath is fine but why can't Rockstar place the hot dog stands a little bit more evenly? In the central island they are on every corner, in the sticks/industrial areas/docks you can find them for love nor money. Or at the very least they could mark them on the map once you have discovered them, it really is frustrating spending 10 minutes blindly looking for one. This especially bites as the slightly bump can see you cannoned off your bike to lose the little heath you have left.

out of the 2 games I personally prefer SR2 for pure entertainment but I really like GTA4 for it's style and innovation. I just hope the next GTA game has a little bit of more stuff to do on the side.

you do know you can just call an ambulance on 911 and if you get in the ambulance and spook the medics you heal yourself.
