I was surprised I haven't seen this in a thread before, so just pointing something out:
"To issue an order the officer must declare which order he is attempting to use and select a single friendly non-vehicle unit within his command radius to carry out the order. This can be the officer's own squad if you wish. The chosen unit must then take a Leadership test to see if the order has been understood and acted upon."
Emphasis, of course, mine.
Much like Vulkan, the text for orders encompasses a very broad range of units that includes allies. Sisters with twin linked meltas/flamers or cover that must be re-rolled.

Yes correct. The wording is (presumably) intentionally like that for a number of reasons: 1) It only affects the very limited number of "Allies" the IG can take, so is pretty limited in its scope anyway. It's hardly game breaking (nor is Vulkan + Sisters to be quite honest). 2) Written to work in Apocalypse, the fun, wacky game this it is. 3) Any new Inquisition Codex's will remove the Allies rule so the fact it affects all Friendly units wont make any difference in regular games any more.

On the other hand it's potentially fantastic for synergy in a doubles list. It was the very first thing I thought about when I read that rule. Lots of potential nastiness there. Mmm-Mmm, tasty.

There will be a very long time until the new rumoured I codex, so this will do some serious damage until then.
But yes, thats how it is written.

Shouldn't this thread be moved. It doesn't really belong in YMTC.
Anyway, what allied unit are the orders so good with?
I don't really see the overpoweredness.
|
In one game turn an Imperial guardsman can move 6", kill a few guys with his flamer, assault 6", kill two more guys with his bayonet, flee 12", regroup when assaulted, react 6", kill one more guy with his bayonet and then flee another 12".
So in one game turn an Imperial guardsman can move 42" and kill more than 5 people. At the same time a Chimera at top speed on a road can move 18"... |
