Ive heard that gretchen really have no use anymore due to GW taking their covering rule out of the game. However, due to the new rules its the same thing except that you dont remove a gretchen so why dont people take them anymore for shielding their army?

i allways take 40 (2 units of 20)
they work great and have plenty of uses, mainly for random cover, tarpitting units (and actually winning some of the fights)
and thier shooting has some use due to being BS3 instead of the basic BS2 of orks.
ill never use a list without them.
also, they work for mine clearence aswell.

What kind of army do you use? That has them incorporated?

i will use them in any build, but usually its with 80+ boyz, lootas and trukk units.

Many people see them as useless when you can get a KFF mekk for cover. However I use them and enjoy having them, primairly because my opponents ignore them. They give you a 4+ cover for intervening models but then again they can provide cover to the enemy now as well.

I have seen them take down the nightbringer before. But what is really fun is to have your cover save in range of a KFF mekk so your cover save gets a 5+ coversave.

If you want to run them I would suggest a footslogging list or a semi-mech list. They really have no place in a KoS list as you need more boyz. Or go crazy with them and run an all grot army with 9 kans and 2 KFF Mekks for your HQ's.

It is rumored that the coming Planetstrike expansion for 40k will contain a lot of options for static defenses such as minefields. So hopefully the wonderful mine clearance rules will see more use this summer.

I like gretchins because they are cute, and they cost so little so I can indulge myself on them.

I would hope so. But I have to agree, the price you can get them is great - expecially if you've always wanted an all grot army, although "cute" is not the word I would use...

I've never used them simply because they're too fiddly, I don't like having to move 60+ models in one movement phase!

Thats why my boyz are on bikes!!

I use them for rear echelon objective holders and picket line troops to block off board edges when my opponent uses Outflanking.

By lining the board edge I can force my opponent up away from units like Lootas and keep the away from my shooty bits for a turn or two.

I've used grots to babysit SAGs and for cover on the move for my boyz. I've never used them without a KFF in the area cause they will just die. I've even been able to pull out some wins with them holding objectives. They're fun and so cheap that its not really a loss if they die so long as theyve distracted fire from your boyz.

I've not used grots yet, but can see uses for them.
So cheap, you can throw a few units in front of Da Boyz for cover, hold a home objective, shield shooty units from assault, hide a SAG or weirdboy ... and much, much more!

Personally I use them as decoration on my wagons

I refuse to enter a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent.
