Given that many of the options for Imperial Guard officers have gone the way of the dodo does anyone have any thoughts on command squad layout.
I was thinking of the following:
Officers: Powerfist and Boltgun or Plasma Pistol
Not sure which gun to go with. Plasma pistol will put down a Space Marine but Bolter has more synergy with the Powerfist in combat but cannot be used on the charge.
Command HQ: Medic, Standard Bearer, Flamer, Meltagun.
My classic setup for Command HQ's. I wonder if I should try to slip in a Comm-link but I don't know what to drop.
Command Squad: Medic, 2 CCW's , Flamer, Meltagun.
There's room here for a Comm-link.
Anyone had any thoughts?

Personally I'll be using my Command Squad to.. command.
This is my standard Command Squad that I've been using (and will continue to use for the forseeable future)
Creed
Master of Ordnance
Officer of the Fleet
Mortar
Vox
Regimental Standard
Chimera with Camo Netting.
Should I drop creed to save points (or slip in 2 CCS) I don't see much reason to arm the commander with anything beyond his standard pistol. Maybe a bolter or a Plasma Pistol so he can put the hurt on once things get a little too real for him. But if that happens I'm probably boned anyways. I may take a Sniper Rifle in place of the Standard in the second squad. Cheap and allows you to reach out and touch someone with two pinning weapons.

The new Codex wants Command Squads in Chimeras providing static fire support from the back line, which is OK, I guess, but utterly unimaginative.
As far as re-equipping Guard officers, that won't happen, as I'm not cutting up any of my metal models without good reason. I'll field them "counts as" under the new rules.
In terms of re-equipping Command Squads, I think I'll probably convert a Company Standard Bearer, because that would be very cool for the display. But for the most part, I'll plan to reshuffle guys around.
I'll probably also add some other stuff, like the walking Ordnance guys.
Finally, I'm planning to regun most of my Chimeras to carry Turret Autocannon, and (depending on my Bitz stock) may fit Heavy Flamers to replace the Hull HBs.

I'm guessing that none of your officers have stormbolters, none of your medics and standard bearers have bolt pistols and none of your sergeants have lasguns.

It makes no damn difference. I'm not cutting up my models for this edition. Whether my Officers have Stormbotlers, whether my Medits have BPs, or whether my Sergeants have Lasguns, I'm not cutting them up because I don't have to. Very simple.

Hmm. I have a downloaded copy and I've read through a real advance copy, and there's no autocannon option for Chimeras. Multi-laster, Heavy Flamer, or Heavy Bolter is it. Unless you're redoing them as Hydras, which are basically quad autocannons on a Chimera chassis, but the turret looks very different.

Holy crap, the IG version doesn't have it the Autocannon or but the FW =I= version does.
That sucks.

I have converted officers/sgt w. stormbolters and a whole unit of Roughriders w. shotguns & meltabombs. They are all going the way of the dinosaurs . They might get some action as props for Dark Heresy campaigns but thats about it.
Fortunately 80% of my officers/sergeants/comissars have plasmapistols as standard, so I don´t have to do any changes. Bolt pistols are iconic for comissars but really don´t make the cut in games. Enemy MEQs/vehicles coming to charge range? One S4 AP5 shot is not going to do any meaningfull damage but S7 AP2 will.

I personally prefer a lean CCS that still has everything I find essential.
CCS:
Officer w/ nothing
vox
standard
fleet officer
2 meltagunners
Chimera
I keep this unit back (usually) and issue orders (and provide reroll morale) and then hunt any armor that gets close.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to keep my CSs bare bones.
With the addition of orders there is even less need for them to run around trying to do damage.
That means no more dropping meltas and even less CC Officers.
I personally like the change. It's much more fluffy

Does that work with Standard Bearers? I've been playing it that you have to put one of the CHQ squads on foot in order to benefit from the Standard.

Yeah, or two... "twin HB" would have completed the thought, before I started digging through my files.
And yeah, apparently, only FW Inquisition Chimeras can take them. Suckage.

It's not really "odd." I believe it's on page 66 of the rulebook. It talks about measuring from the vehicle's hull in when range to an embarked unit is important.

@George: Given that the scans of what I assume to be the actual IG Codex lacks Autocannon and twin HB, I guess Autocannons and twin HB are a no-go.
Which is stupid, as the 5E Codex was the perfect time to make *all* of the FW Guard stuff legal...
But then, GW is known for doing stupid stuff like this.

So you're complaining that an option which was FW only before still is FW only?
Geez, you are determined to hate this codex. Why don't you go read one of Sheps Battle Reports. He seems to actually be winning with the new codex, something I thought you IG players would be happy to have the option to do.

I can win just fine with the old IG Codex, too. Drop Guard are an absolute terror on the field.
And I'm sure it's possible to win with the new Codex. Never said it couldn't be done. I just don't like what I'm going to have to do to make it happen.

Models that cannot be fielded cannot win battles. I’d be happy to field the models I have, then I’ll start winning battles with them.
@JHDD: I wasn't surprised by the lack of Forgeworld options for the Chimera; AFAIK they aren't redoing the kit. I was surprised by the lack of a multi-melta equipped sentinel, but as I don't own one I'm not disappointed. I do have some Autocannon equipped Chimeras and I expect that Forgeworld will produce a PDF fairly soon, until then they'll be player consent.

Given that FW leaked the Chimera as having the options in the PDF, I assumed that this would carry down into the regular IG as a cut-and-paste.
It's a trivial thing, costs GW no effort, and doesn't unbalance anything, particularly as the AC and tlHB even cost a few more points.
So yeah, I expected the Chimera to get those options, given their age and acceptance, and ease of conversion.
Silly me.

I can see getting a power weapon for background and style purposes, but I can't see why one would ever not take a powerfist if it were an option (ie, on sergeants). For 5 points more, you get 1 less attack, but wound most things on 2+ instead of 5+. It is almost always going to be much better.

Yes, considering that all Guard officers are I3 now, your swinging last ( or simultaniously ) against most opponents anyway.
