Hi,

So I have heard about Inquisitor for a long time, but never played it, or seen it played!

However, I just sprung for purchasing Dakka member jah-joshua's beautiful kal jerico model off of ebay. I have heard that this model is not in production due to copyright reasons, so I wouldn't mind using it as something else. I'll probably call him Avery Cates (if anyone is familiar with the novels... just reading them now ).

So, what can I do with 1 figure? Can I play the game?

Thanks and sorry since this is probably obvious to anyone remotely familiar with ][ Here's the pic!

If you fancy giving Inquisitor a try, this article should give you some more information and a few pointers as to where to start.

Warbands normally consist of 3-4 characters, but you can play just fine with one - he could be a lone wolf, outnumbered but skilled enough to survive on his own.

Wow, that's a great article- thanks!

I will be looking into getting a few more figures soon, but I'm just trying to see if I can actually do something with the 1 I have to get a feel for what I'd want to add

I'm on the run now but I'll read that article and maybe post a few follow-up questions in this thread after I learn enough to ask them

As well as the two sections of the rulebook, it's worth getting the Thorian sourcebook and as many of the old pdf articles as you can get your hands on. (Some of the articles are a bit rubbish, but others are very useful.)

Also, if you haven't already seen it, have a look at the fanzine Dark Magenta. You can find it via the article I linked to at the start of this thread.

If you have any questions regarding the game, let me know and I'll do my best to answer them.

Its reasuring to know other people play INQ. there are very few active INQ threads. Just sending a hello.

As for the one model There are a few things you can do.

1) you need to find another player with a model (buy a second)
2) learn the rules together by playing a few run and gun skirmishes while focusing on developing your story telling abilities (the switch from competitive W40k to narrative INQ can be tough).
3) Using a 3rd player as a GM learn to build mini campaigns that grow beyond 40 mentality ("what would happen if a space marine went up against...")

ARCHITECTURE OF HATE

If you are shy on models, weak on the games mechanics, yet want to add more models to the game w/o bogging the game down I recommend downloading the INQ sample campaign "ARCHITECTURE OF HATE". there is a section for grunt NPC characters your GM can pepper all over the map. For these weak grunt models I simply glue 1/2 a Popsicle stick vertical on a 54"mm base and paste a printout of a model (character concept to it). NEVER DO THIS WITH YOUR ACTUAL PC MODELS. These proxy models are great speed bumps for your characters (use em' as hostages, panicked crowds, ect.).

Over time you should add more models and realy flush out your warbands story. But these grunts can be a fun addition to small quick games with a GM.

EDIT:
I mean add more actual INQ models over time. The stick figures should only ever be used when filling a scene with generic destractions (forcing charters to be careful where they place their shots or hiding in a crowd to blend in with the population) never characters that adversely affect the story.

There are tons of Inquisitor players out there, just not many on this forum. Normally I'd direct you to The Conclave, which was the most active forum for the game but evil hereteks hacked the server at the hosting company so it's down for the moment (you can see the announcement here). I'm more than happy to discuss it on this forum though and hopefully catch the interest of a few more people.

2) learn the rules together by playing a few run and gun skirmishes while focusing on developing your story telling abilities (the switch from competitive W40k to narrative INQ can be tough).
Issue 1 of Dark Magenta (the Inquisitor fanzine) has an article along these lines - training scenarios to get you used to the rules where you play a couple of new recruits being tested by an Inquisitor. Unfortunately the DM site was on the same server as the 'Clave so is also down - but I can supply a copy if anyone is interested.

I've used the NPC rules in AoH a few times now - they are excellent and well worth looking at.

If you want to keep up on news of the 'Clave, or to meet some of the other regulars, we're camping out in the Inquisitor sub-forum at Warseer until it's fixed.

What I meant was that you can play the game using a single model as your warband - you still need an opponent who should have at least one model. Obviously, the more models you have between you the more options you have, but 3-4 characters per warband and no more than about 10 models on the table in total (including NPCs) is a good sized game that will probably take an hour or two to play and still be fast pased and fun.

A few of us have been talking about organising a game in the near future, possibly in the Manchester area - if we do I'll let you know and you can come see what the game is all about. I may even be persuaded to lend you a model or two so you can have a go.

On that subject, Fire_hive do you have pics of your models that we can see?

In case people haven't found mine - check out the gallery in my sig. From the main page of that site you can also find a link to my Photobucket site which has more pictures.

Could someone give me a size comparison of an inquisitor model to a current 40k model please?

Wow, nice to see people talking about Inquisitor

I purchased and converted two more models to go with the one I posted a pic of above, and I should have them back from the painter later this week. Then I just need to find an opponent...

Thanks for the link to the conclave, I'll check that out, too!

The 'Clave has members spread all over the world, so it's possible you'll find an opponent near you. Members in the UK organise fairly regular games, usually at WHW in Nottingham, and new players are always welcome.

Only 1.5 to 2 hours? That's no excuse! :-) It takes me 2.5 hours, and my journey is far from being the longest. Some people come down from Scotland - often flying down and staying overnight for things like the Spring Conclave and IGT - I told you the Inquisitor community was dedicated!

haha okay okayyy
another question from me...
If I bourght a box of Tyranid Warriors (the big three)
Could i use them as hormagaunts or some form of tyranid in inquisitor?

sure you could use them as gaunts, just as you can use the older hive tyrant as a warrior (the one that looks like a queen alien). If you downloaded the alien generator, this is the best solution for designing their rules.
If you want to put the nids in a science facility gone a-rye where they have been tested on/mutated, that is probable.

With that all said I recommend taking the xeno concept further and invent your own feral beast to occupy your gamescape. This unknown monster can be much more terrifying than a few gaunts.
