Hey Dakka community. A while back I found an Excel file to build armies with, not real sure where I got it from or who made it, but props to whoever did it. Anyways, I took it and updated it for when the 5th ed SM codex came out, since the basic unit composition and other stuff changed. So the first file on here is the basic on that works great for the SM codex.

The second file is one I am working on for the new IG codex. It is a little harder to do because of the Infantry platoon options. So I added a new tab to build 1 Platoon, and it will factor into the overall points value, but doesnt actually replace one of the troops slot. I am still working on how to add it into the "printer friendly" tab also.

So let me know what you think, and how the IG one can be improved.

Is there a possibility you could save the file in .xls format? I havn't got MS-office on my computer (ideological reasons) and Microsoft is very picky with their .xlsx-format, so it's not available on the freeware OpenOffice I use.

There will probably not be any loss of functionality by saving in an older format.

yeah, here you go. I should have put both versions up to begin with.

The IG one seems a bit busted. Couple things I noticed:

On the "Infantry Platoon" tab, the "Totals" box has a place for "Command" and each Infantry Squad, but the "Command" gives the total of Squad 1 entry, "Squad 1" gives the total of the Second Squad entry, etc. and so on. Command Squad total isn't given.

The printer-friendly page doesn't appear to update with information from the Infantry Platoon section. Not sure if it's supposed to, but it'd be quite useful.

Also, on the Army Summary Page the Infantry Platoon cell references the wrong cell on the Infantry Platoon page.

But overall, not too shabby.

Thanks a lot for the format change. I will dedicate my next slaughter of Tau to you.

I will check those when I get home, thanks for the heads up. It probably messed up some when I moved the totals box over to put the conscripts in. and yeah I stated at the top that it wasnt in the printer summary page yet, as I am not sure how to add it in without it looking like crap. but am still working on it.

I've fixed some things in the infantry platoon section:
a) added in the option for 5 heavy weapons squads
b) added in the option for 2 special weapons squads
c) Added new options to the total section, and added the math to make them right.
d) made it so the infantry squads and command squads math was pointed at the right spot.
I haven't touched the printer friendly page yet so I don't know about that.

yeah I wasnt sure about having a slot for all 5 HW slots and both Special Wpns slots cause I figured you could put them in one section, but this way makes it better detailed which isnt a bad thing.

and I took yours Foda and adjusted just a bit, and added to the printer summary page,what do you guys think now?

I've had no problems with it. I've rather been enjoying pointing out different platoons.

You may want to update - OpenOffice 3.2.1 opens it fine.
