Well it's not much, but the first piece of the Reaver is finished! I decided to paint up the kneecap first just to try out the color scheme. I may continue painting pieces here and there as I build it, but I guess it all depends on how it has to go together.

Here it is next to a MegaMarine, just for scale. The colors are Macharius Solar Orange, Chaos Black, Boltgun Metal and Chainmail.

Allright, I will post more when I have made some progress. If all goes well the main legs will be assembled within the next two weeks.

I'd like to know what you think of the color scheme, you can vote on the poll or yell at me here. Either way works for me!

Thanks,

MegaDave

It was $800 or so. When Bell of Lost Souls noticed the exchange rate drop and posted it, I got my credit card out without even a hint of trepidation. Responsible irresponsibility I call it.

Glad you like the scheme, I always enjoy doing things a little off-the-wall. The idea is to make it look like a giant fire dragon when it is all done, with the head painted yellow and the guns and undercarriage painted black to darken it up a bit.

Glad you're doing some of it black. The colours are nice but it might look a bit garish on an entire titan. Love to see the rest of it

I know. I'm evil.
I saw weird stuff in that place last night. Weird, strange, sick, twisted, eerie, godless, evil stuff. And I want in.

Hey y'all, just thought I'd post a few more pics of the Reaver since I haven't updated in forever. It's actually coming along fairly nicely at this point. (Well at least I think so!)

This should give you a better idea of how the finished model will look, the only thing that isn't on there is the arms.

Well anyhoo, like I said just a little update. Lemme know what you think!

Thanks,

Colour scheme is nice. Usually orange looks to bright but by adding a contrasting colour you have made it look much more pleasing to the eye. I would rethink the colour of the head though. Looks a bit out of place to me. Otherwise the whole model thus far looks good

It's being run by people with short term vision and enough greed to extinguish a sun.

Perhaps they're the C'tan.

Just be sure and do up some awesome banners for it. So far, looks great. I am very jealous, because I love the Reaver. I just wish FW would do a Warlord.

Looks really good. I think it would look fine like it is without the weathering and stuff... Doesnt need to have been through wars / etc... Its just brand new!

Leave off the weathering, or make it light.

A titan does not see the elements that normal units do, ie mud and stuff won;t splash up on a titan.

Add to that a titan is treated almost akin to a god so it will be pristine at almost all times.

ALso I love your colour scheme, very simple, but very, very striking.

Cannot wait to see the thing finished.

Forget the naysayers!

Weather that badboy! Water down some graveyard earth/scorched brown and airbrush it on very lightly around the feet. Have some rainstreaks on the carapace, etc. Blacken the engine to have seen service for a lengthy time, and heck. Add in blast scars on the body!

Despite being lovingly cared for, the titans are thousands of years old and some still in active service fought against Horus.

I say some weathering but it must be weathering appropriate to the size of it.

I'm really liking the orange armor looks really good. I stand with MGS in saying that a bit of weathering could look very nice.

Inboud...

That is a very crisp orange- I approve!

Looking really good, as the choice of colours compliment each other, and arn't too garish.

Weathering a Titan must be done carefully- around the feet definitely, and on the engine, but subtlety is the key when it comes to armour damage. Be careful! I'd hate to see that beautiful model ruined!

Weathering a Titan is tricky. The feet will have some wear from stepping on stuff like buildings and tanks, so scratches, dents and dings happen. Mud, dust, or dirt will happen, too. Go light. On the weapons, add some pigments to show it having discharged weapons, and add some darkness around exhaust ports, etc.

Again, looks good. Keep at it.

Impressive stuff, can't wait to see more. I'm also enjoying the debate about how much weathering a Titan would endure

Well thank you all for the enthusiastic replies! to be honest I didn't think much about weathering it at all, but I tend to paint everything I do very clean.

I think I'd actually need to learn to weather a lot before I attempted it on the big guy. But, if I do ever get it down, I can start weathering him more game after game, perhaps painting big blast spots when he gets targeted by some big nasty titan killer.

I am also glad y'all like the color scheme, one never knows how the community will take something a little off the wall.

Thanks,

I like the orange, it really pops and the silver trim really makes it stand out.
Weathering is a personal choice, some light MIG dusting around the feet and
some washing in the joints might help deepen the colors.

Not to crazy about the yellow head, seems out of place,
Maybe black if your not against a repaint idea.

Do you have a name for your Legio?

I am curious about that too!

As for the yellow, given the bizarre nature of paintjobs seen on some of the Titans, its not a stretch.

I think it would look good with a small blue flame silhouette againt the orange. Everyone has seen orange fire on a blue background so maybe a blue flame on the orange would be even better? Just a suggestion.

Nope, no name for the Legio. I have no idea where to begin in that. Any ideas? The titans name is voltronius somethingorotherus, lol, but I'm not generally good with names. So any suggestions would be appreciated!

The yellow head is just because the inspiration came from the fire dragon minis of the eldar. I've always liked them, but never been able to actually paint them. So, I did the titan up in their scheme.

I mean, I guess he'll kinda looks like a gigantic imperialised version of these guys, right?

ha ha i love it... i can't paint an eldar figure thats an inch high so lets try hmmmm ill try a titan instead lol

i personally like the yellow head. I think it'll be easier to tell if it suits the model once the top armour plating is finished.

how do the joints go together on a FW titan? that thing looks too massive to pin unless you use a household drill and nail, lol.

For most of the joints a regular hobby drill worked fine, I used coat hangars as the pins. For the ankle joints I put a threaded rod in there so I could use a nut to secure it to the base. It also allow me to make diferent types of bases, I'm planning on a forest, desert, snow and city base.

Yep, pretty much! Actually, I've just never had the ability to stick with an eldar army, I always get a squad in and them sell them. I dunno what that is about. But I liked the color scheme and wanted to use it somewhere, so the titan it was.

Hey just wanted to update ya'll on my Reaver Titan, he's all finished. I've even gotten in two games with Voltronius already, and he kicked some xenos butt! Well I'll just let the pictures speak for themselves, but I'd love to hear what you think about the final product.

Woah....just...wow.... great great job on him! And you did it fairly quick if I may say so myself! The only thing I think might add to it is if you wrote something on the places that have the banners but even if you didnt it still looks ace! Great job!

Thank you! Is 7 months considered quick? I feel like I was working on this forever. Not that I minded much, but it seemed like it was never going to end sometimes. I might go back someday and do letering, but free hand lettering is not a skill I possess.
