So, I played a game last night and we both had eldar, and we both had the Runes of Warding and Witnessing. I have several questions that came up during the game.
1) How do the Runes work together. We came up with rolling 3D6, discarding the highest to see if the power was successful, but then adding all 3 dice to determine of Perils of the Warp was activated.
2) How many times does an eldar Farseer have to save against Perils? Invulnerable saves need to be re-rolled, per the BGB, but does this include the Ghosthelm? Also, how does this work if the Farseer is fortuned? You can't re-roll a re-roll, but if the die is passed, Perils says to re-roll, but if it is failed, fortune says to re-roll. Which takes precedence?

That is actually a very good question. I would actually play it the way you did there, but I am not 100% sure on how this works. whitedragon wrote:2) How many times does an eldar Farseer have to save against Perils? The Ghosthelm is NOT a save, so does not have to be re-rolled. It lets you ignore the PotW on a fixed dice roll, the same way as FnP does against Wounds. If you fail the Ghosthelm, then you do your invulnerable saves, re-rolling if successful. If you are fortuned, strictly speaking you MUST roll the dice, and re-roll it no matter what happens and accept the second result, as you cannot re-roll it again. Mathematically speaking, you can ignore the first dice, but make sure your opponent knows what the deal is.

If a Farseer is fortuned and suffers a perils of the warp the following happens.
You roll on your ghosthelm. 3+ and the perils is negated. This is a one time roll and fortune does not effect it.
If the ghosthelm doesnt spare your squishy Eldar head then it's time to roll your invulnerable saves. The safest way of playing this part is to just roll then re-roll if successful. Or roll two dice if either is under four take a wound...
Fortune doesn't really help in this situation.

Why wouldn't fortune help?
The way it interacts is if you fail your ghosthelm, then you roll your invulnerable. If you pass, you re-roll due to PotW, if you fail, you re-roll due to fortune, so you basically just pick up the dice and roll again regardless of the result. Or, since it's statistically identical, the fortune and PotW re-rolls cancel each other out.

Actually it does. Without fortune, if you fail the first time, you fail. If you Pass you re-roll. Fortune+PotW means that Mathamatically, the save becomes your regular save, rather than "Save + Reroll if Successful".
My math-fu is weak today however and I cannot be arsed working it out. Someone work out the % of passing if you have to re-roll successes please, since its 50% if you don't re-roll

Thanks for the quick responses guys. I knew that my ghosthelm should have been doing something more, oh well. And I did have a fuzzy recollection that the FAQ addressed the runes issue, but obviously we didn't have it available during the game.

25%.
50% chance of first roll failing, and 50% of the second means that you have a 75% chance of failure.
Half of the half you succeed at will succeed again.
