Okay, I think this is a pretty solid 1K ork list which will let me play with different elements I'm fond of in the Ork list.

A little backgrond - a few friends and I are getting back into WH40K after being out of it for a LOOOONG time (3rd ed, 2001, is when I left.) I'm playing Orks, Friend A is playing Eldar and/or marines and friend B is swarming with Nids.

This is a speedier Ork list with some nice support firing units.

HQ: Big Mek, KFF, PK, BP - 115

Warphead - 85

Troops:

(10) Slugga Boys, BS, - 151
- Nob, PK,
- Trukk, Red, Boarding Plank

{Big Mek gets attached to this unit}

(10) Shoota Boys, BS - 151
- Nob, PK, BP
- Trukk, Red

{Warphead gets attached to this unit}

(12) Shoota Boys, BS
- Nob, PK, BP
- Trukk, red

Elite:

(15) Lootas - 225

Fast:

(2) Deffkoptas, TL Rokkits - 90

Heavy:

(3) Kannon

The Warphead goes with the shoota boys, The MEK goes with the slugga boys and travels in the middle of hte Trukk pak. All speed up the middle guns a blazin'

The Deff Koptas provide some anti-tank, a one-trick pony as it were against rear armor.

Lootas and Kannon serve as fire support.

The total is 995 points.

I really like the warphead and wanted to give it a go to see how it works. Actually, I like Zogwart even better but couldn't muster hte some 60 points I needed to upgrade the warphead, even after removing the red paint job.

Which makes me think, is the red paint job wirth it?

change the 10-strong unit of shootas for sluggaz and you look like you have a decent force going on

should be fun to play as well

I have to wonder, why the warphead? 85 points is more than halfway to another gang of trukk boyz.

Also, I dont find big gunz to do anything worth their points, esp. when you consider that 3 of them equals 4 lootas. Im fairly sure you are thinking of using them to crack AV 14, but they really are not that good at it, and any other of their uses lootas do better.

On the topic of lootas, 15 is a bit much. I tend to break them down into smaller squads so I have the option to fire at multiple targets. It also buffers the effect of luck, giving you more chances to roll for the number of shots, which may be good or bad.

I would recommend against deff coptas. For 90 pts you could take something that would really light up armor, like more trukk boyz. S9 against rear armor in combat is always wonderful, as is the 18 inch range on the charge, 19-24 if you waaagh.

Thank you for the advice!

If I drop the Koptas and the big gunz (which are my AT units aside from the one trukk with the boarding plank and 2 PK wielding orks) it frees up 150 points. So the question is what to do with it.

A fourth trukk is a viable option. 10 boyz, BS, nob, PK, BP, Trukk, Red, Boarding Plank. It's some 152 pts which is OK since I was 5 under.

Why the warphead? I just really want to try out the model and see how it works in combat. Remember, I'm starting anew after years of stasis. I remember back in the good ol days when you had the Minderz and summoned the foot of Gork with 'eadbangerz.

I am up for any other suggestions for the 150 pts. What did you mean by the S9 hit? were you referencing Tankbustas?

I also agree with splittle the Lootas. What do you suggest? 2 mobz of 8 I can do right now with the models I have. is that a viable option? It would also only cost an additional 15 points which I can squeeze out of *somewhere*

I have to be honest I pick my lists based on what is going to be fun to play rather than competitive, so IMO stick with the warphead because it will add much flavour to games. If you want to crack AV14 either go with 'koptas (sneak round the back of tanks) or Zzap guns rather than kannons. The current beardy tactic is a mob of 12 tankbustas in a trukk w/rokkit launchas, 13 rokkits a turn from a vehicle is not to be sniffed at.

I htink the S9 hit meant the power klaw nob in a boyz mob.
