Would you change Russes ( not just replace turrets ) to fit into the new IG codex and its options?

Would you cut off things like coaxial stormbolters ( some tanks with FW rules have them ) if there are already extra stormbolter or heavy stubber ?

Would you change the sponsons ( since russes had only HB or HF, but now its also MM or PC ) ?

Personally I'm working on creating a Macharius style Russ.

I would in fact add co-axial H.stubbers to my tanks!

And for the sponsons I find hull H.Bolters with H.Bolters on the sides keeps pesky troops at bay plus the new executioner turret would be the only time for the Plasma Cannons to be brought out (In my opinion). Terminator armor will crumble into heaps of boiling mush!

I'm going to be magnetizing all of my hull, sponson and turret weapons so I don't have to own a million different russes in different configs in order to always be able to play the ones I want to.

It seems beneficial to buy the Demolisher kit over the basic russ kit though because the Demolisher comes with the PC and MM sponsons when the basic LRBT kit doesn't.

To answer your questions;

Yes, I am changing most of my Russ’s around to fit the new codex. I am doing a complete repaint\rebuild on all of my tanks to take into account my increased painting skills and a desire to make them seem less “factory fresh”. More stowage and weathering (some battle damage perhaps) features highly in my upgrade plans.

I will NOT be cutting off my Co-Axle SB etc from my FW tanks. I think they look cool, even if they have no in-game rules.

Since I will have all of my LRs apart, I will take the opportunity to change the sponson arrangement some. I am lucky enough to have some extra bits lying around to build and magnetize two pairs of sponsons. Not sure yet what to do with the other 6 sets I will need, Warstore Bits perhaps?

Thats the benefit of new tanks, deciding freely over those new options.

Magnetizing seems to be the way to keep your amount of tanks in check.
Didn't go there. Had bought just more tanks to fill a Tank-company and ended , as usual, with 2 of them.

Good point. Reworking some models when youre more skilled is never wrong.

I'm not lacking in bitz, so could change a lot.
Still not sold on these new IG configs, cost in points hit me hard. Figured out i have -4000 pts at 20 Tanks. Wouldn't like to increase the pts per model too much.

I should at least change the unsupported ( Not in IG dex ) models with new turrets.

Earlier in the year, pre-Codex, I did some re-conversion of my Russes, but I'm not planning on any further changes to my Russes:
- 3 Demolishers w/ Hull HB
- 2 basic Russes w/ Hull HB

I have 1 more hull that is saved to convert into an Atlas ARV.

Most of the "new" Russes don't interest me.

I have no sponsons on my Russes (2).
I have twin lascannon, twin autocannon, vanquisher and battlecannon turrets.

These tanks have been left as is since 2nd ed.

Leman Russ Annihilator was 2E?!?

I thought we only had basic & Demolisher, with the Exterminator and Vanquisher coming in 3E.

Sponson-free "battletanks" then.

Could spare you some points. Possible to "move" and shoot everything also.
Problem may be the weird design and look of a russ without sponsons, just too high and not broad enough.

Would need some extra armor as sponson replacement.
Anyone done that?

Anyone taking the "front heavy flamer" option in the new codex?

You could swap out weapons in vehicles in 2nd ed, don't forget. The lascannons came from the 2nd ed predator, and autocannons were plastic tubing of 3 different sizes slipped together.

My gaming group was much more permissive then (hell, we had 1/72 scale battle mechs taking the field alongside the 40k stuff - we had a set of Griffins, Shadow Hawks, Battlemasters, Goliaths and Scorpions).
