I heard something during the last game evening that if the Imperium allies with the other races then they have something like "Distrusted Allies" or something like that which gives you a chance to attack your allies but I caught the arse-end of the conversation and forgot to ask the guys before I left.

I can't find anything in the rulebook, does anyone know what they were talking about?
I want to have a 2 vs 2 with my Space Marine toting buddy next week but not if I'm gonna go charging into his forces every turn...

There is a chart that shows fluff-wise what races are likely to or ever do ally with others. I do not remember any rules for penalties against a teammate of a different race.

The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is the Apoc Datasheet for the Grey Knights Strike Force Formation, where if you kill all the Chaos models, they turn on the Imperials.

I have heard of this, but i think it might be an apoc rule, not sure just what i think. If i remember right you had to roll a die and if it was a six (or maybe a 1 it was a while ago) the alliance broke down and you turned on each other.

Actually, the Rogue Trader rules allowed Blood Axe Orks and Imperial Guard to ally. I'm pretty sure this was continued forward into the initial 2nd Ed. Ork and IG lists, but was abandoned by the time of the 2nd Ed. Codex: Imperial Guard.

I remember a white dwarf which had rules for allying 40k in 40minutes armies. I think was before/shortly after 4th ed, not long after the origional 40k in 40mins rules had been published in white dwarf. There was a grid showing who could ally with who.

The catagories were something like "battle brothers" (eg SM with SM or IG with IG) = no penalty, "trusted allies" (eg IG with SM) = no penalty, "distrusted ally/something similar" (Orks with IG) = a Ld penalty if memory serves me and finally "May not ally" (daemon hunters with chaos)

It actually had some fairly odd rulings in it. For example Witch hunters and IG were listed as "distrusted allies" and necrons had "may not ally" with everybody except other necrons!

I'll have a look at my WD collection and find the number for you when i get home from work lol!

The chart that has been referred to is on page 198 of the Apocalypse book.

However, it is only thing it tells you is whether forces are likely to ally with each other. You can still ally any forces you want with each other in Apocalypse that chart just tells you that you'll have to come up with a really great explanation as to why certain armies are fighting alongside each other.

So basically it is just a tool for fluff.
