In 1980 an race of alien robots known as the Cylons attempts an invasion of Earth.

One robot brain is salvaged and used to construct an autonamos self-aware vehicle; the Knight Industries Two Thousand or KITT.

Software from it is also used by ENCOM to create the Master Control Program.

By the 1990s the technology was used to create a space-based missile defense system, Skynet.

In the 2000s Skynet became self-aware and destroyed humanity.

The nuclear winder cut off Skynet's Earth-bound units from solar power leading it to enslave the remants of humanity to use as batteries, keeping their minds enslaved in a VR simulation called the Matrix.

Over millennia human thought and machine thought became one, leading to a rise of humanoid machines with personalities rooted in 20th century culture. Earth is now covered entirely in machinery. A civil war erupts between those machines who think they created a greivious error and those who think it was right to crush the fleshlings. They are known as the Autobots and Decepticons, their world, Cybertron. Time travel is used to bring their war back to the past in attempt to undo history.


Their abandoned world drifts for a million years feeding off of other worlds and eventually developing senience. After consuming the resources of its era it follows its lost children back in time. It will be known as Unicron.

And then, after the War of the Iron Men, mankind never trusts artificial intelligences again, and uses lobotomized criminals as computers forevermore.

Optimus Prime's desperate time travel rescue almost fails. A last minute Decepticon attack causes them to far overshoot their destination. They land millions of years in the past and are buried under a volcano only to awaken in the 20th century with fragmented memories of who they are and why they are there.

The Transformer Wars change the timeline. Though Optimus perishes in the year 2005 in the opening battle of what would be called the Unicron War, he is successful in preventing the rise of Skynet. John Conner doomed to fail in the original timeline is now aided by a human trained by the Autobot, Spike Witwicky and his son Daniel.

Earth is still devestated but it rises from the ashes. Out of the remnants of Transformer technology a man named Cochrane builds a warp-capable ship and takes mankind to the stars.

Less than a century later a man called Kirk becomes Earth's greatest explorer.

But less than a century after that another man named Piccard makes a discovery that almost dooms the human race. It seems the Decepticons and Skynet did not go quietly. They sent a part of themselves into deep space and created a new race of organic-machine hybrids. The Borg.

By the 24th Century they have devestated the Alpha Quadrant. Before the Borg are finally defeated, the Klingons, the Romulans, the Vulcans and so many more have vanished from the stars.

Thus by the 25th Century a twice-devestated Earth is threatened by a new foe, the Draconians. And the only one who can oppose them is another survivor of the 20th century, a legendary pilot and astronaut, and man called Rogers.

Triumphing over the Draconians Rogers leaves Earth is a ship called Searcher, looking for lost colonies of Earth.

Little does he know are were 12 of them... but not for much longer...

... Buck and the Searcher discover the radioactive debries of 12 human colonies just as Commander Adama and President Roslyn land on the radioactive ruins of Earth.

Unicron has united his scattered children, the cylons, the borg, and the terminators for a final battle against the fleshlings.

They fall upon the Galactica and the Searcher with renewed fury. Their victory seems assured until Unicon suddenly explodes! The machines shut down and humanity survives.

Unknown to all Unicron was sabotaged from within by a long-forgotten program known as Tron. But he is not finished yet, a small fraction of his essence flees backwards in time, farther than anyone will ever find him, sleeping, waiting...

Humanity declares a jihad with the first commandment, Thou Shall Not Make a Machine in the Image of Man's Mind. AIs are declared anathama and replaced by organic computers, mentats, powered by a certain spice found a desert world.

Superhuman abilities become common, whole worlds boast powers like telepathy, magentic control or the ability to split in three. By the 30th century the United Planets are protected by a literal Legion of Super Heroes.

By the year 10,000 humanity is once more in control of the galaxy. But there is always the fear that the machines are out there somewhere using time travel to once again thwart humanity. A groups of humans use their own time travel and superhuman abilities to begin a long war against them. They are known as Time Lords and led by a certain Doctor. They fight remnants of the machines, the Daleeks and the Cybermen from one end of time to the other.

The Empire is overthrown by a rebellion from House Attraties and their fierce Fremen allies. The reign of the new god-emperor lasts for 1000s of years before the galaxy falls once more into chaos.

A small group of scholars predict this fall and flee to the edge of the galaxy to found a certain Foundation.

By the year 30,000 AD things are in dire straights. The temporal war has bulloxed up the timeline. The Vulcans never abandoned emotion for logic and conquered the stars much earlier. The Klingons never developed honor and devolved into fierce and brutal warriors. Time rifts have caused whole areas of the galaxy to be lost to chaos. The Doctor realizes he has only once choice, to save the galaxy he must rule it, as the God Emperor of Mankind.

He succeeds but only barely when his clone-son rebels. He is left trapped in a Golden Throne defending the whole of reality with his mind. His Imperium becomes grim and dark.

His lost sons, the Sensei strive for almost 10,000 years to redeem the Imperium but by the year 40,000 AD they admit defeat. They flee through time and space, arriving a long time ago, in a galaxy far far away. There they found a new order of Knights who become the guardians of Peace and Justice for over a 1000 years.

With them gone the last children of Unicron make their move. They have slept for millions of years and now they shall rise. Men will call them... Necrons.

But the Necrons have a new and terrible foe. The Sensei Knights saw this day and with the aid of the bio-organic Yuuzhan Vong they have created the Necron's opposite number. The wholey organic Tyranids.

But tron is only a trace utility. Really, old BASIC command: TRace ON. It had a companion command; TROFF (TRace OFF).
It's only purpose is to FIND things. It can't do anything else apart from this. you need another program working with it to do anything with the data.

So how does the Matrix fit into this. Of all the sentient technology we need to be made into batteries at some point.
