I have you to thank Graven! You started him off. I'm merely finishing what was a great project to start with!

So I've been working like a man possessed this evening. I've watched both the cinema and director's cut of 'Aliens' (I can never watch that film too many times), had a whisky and codeine chaser (Whilst I'll never advocate the mixing of alcohol and prescription medicines, when you're 30 and had your pelvis pinned and screwed back together, you'll understand), I've finished a few modelling tasks.

The Terminator Librarian:

I've put together a Terminator squad. I don't mind if they're not legal for gaming, it's an excuse to buy more. I love Terminators. And thanks to Graven, I have plenty of them to work with:

And for the money shot, I have my finished Mentor Soft-Knock team and their Land-Quad:

I added vapour from my vapouriser for a smoke effect:

So that's it for now. The fething postman decided NOT to knock on my door (I complained to the Royal Mail, after I had stayed in specifically to ensure I got my new Land-Speeder) and just chucked in a 'something for you card' which really pee'd me off. I'm sure it was a drop in guy, as my regular postie knocks on my door, delivers next-door's mail, which gives me time to make it down two flights of stairs to the front door. ANYWAY, I'll be collecting my Land-speeder tomorrow to start my next Land-Quad. I also ordered a Dreadnought, for science.

Graven, my bank account will never forgive you! But a massive thank you mate, it's much appreciated.

So a bit of a change in pace. Well, not really. I've been smashing out the conversion work today. Decided to hold fire on the 2nd Land-Quad, as I'm still working out the kinks in the chassis.
But I have been having a play with my new Dreadnought.

I've gone for a bit more of a dynamic pose, as he is very boring just stood there, weapons facing forward. So I've butchered the right knee, and right foot, and brought it up slightly, having him on his front toe. I've also spaced out the left shoulder, and GS'd the gap for stability. I'll tart it up with more GS once it's cured. I've got to neaten up the right knee, adding the damper back in and some guitar string to repair the cabling. I wasn't sold by the stock plates for the sarcophagus, so I added a blank on and I'll add rivets to liven it up. I bought some red primer from my local garage, which will work nicely with the marmite method, as I'll be trying that again with this guy.

I also worked on my FW Centurion.

Quite a deep pose, the more I look at him. Either he's deep in thought, or he's thinking of burying that chain-fist into some poor bugger. Bought the helmet from eBay, as I'm no fan of bare-headed marines. Had to cut down the chin to fit. But I'm looking forward to getting some colour on this dude.

Might have an update later. Might not. Depends how the Rugby goes.

You're bang on the money LeCacty. I'm a sucker for limited molds. He was the first official purchase of my Mentors. Though he doesn't quite fit in with a modern chapter such as the Mentors, he looked cool as feth, so I had to get him. I didn't like his head sculpt either. I just can't get on with bare-heads. So a helmet was found for him. I think it suits him a lot better.

It's not the worst bare-head, but I felt it wasn't right for what I wanted to do. He does look a little 'slow'. Like Sloth from the Goonies.

It may work on an ogryn. This may be an overstatement but that's the worst thing I've seen from FW.

It just didn't do any thing for me. I always end up converting every model I have/had anyway, but that head just had to go.

That head is really not their best by reach. Just finsihed putting in an order to FW and that centurion with 'the head' just made me think 'SM who's let themselves go a bit'. Uually their stuff is spot on but 'Brother Slow'n'Old' there....

The librarian build is fantastic Bash. Very intimidating and impressive.

The scouts in the land quad are just amazing. Such a cool model and very easy to understand to boot. It's really impressive and a show-piece to be sure.

@ Januine - Don't be put off getting him. Overall, he's a great figure. But you're right, up close the head sculpt isn't the best.

@ Gitsplitta - Comments from a gentleman as talented as yourself, mean a lot. Thank you Sir.

Just tinkering with the chain-fist on the Centurion. GS'd the gaps, and added a small cable to integrate the whole build into the model:

If I only I could have done stuff like this 20 years ago, instead of using 'Military Muscle Men' as proxies, because I couldn't paint camouflage.

Thanks LeCacty, that's very generous for you to say. As promised, though it's a little late, here's my 'how-to' guide on capes. It's very, very simple. I hammered this out in around 5 minutes.

Green stuff. Most important part:

Then flatten it and fold the round edges into a sort of square:

Get some cling-film/cling-wrap/clear plastic wrapper and place a few drops of water onto it. This still stop the GS from sticking to it. Animal approves this:

Then gently 'accordion' it up into a ladies (or mens) fan concept. This is get some nice creases into the GS. But don't flatten it, as the GS will tear at the fold lines:

Then drape it onto your figure with wet fingers, as your fingers don't need capes (well, maybe). I use a rounded paint-brush handle to flare out the cape edges. I even quickly boshed out a hood for this guy, by tucking in the excess at the top of the cap were it bunched up:

It may sound daft, but getting some heavy linen and draping it over your shoulders will help you get an idea of how the fabric falls. Also googling images of capes helps. Most important advice:
DON"T GIVE UP!
The joy with GS is that if it doesn't work out right first time, you can take it off, roll it up and start again. I had to do the Terminator cape four times before I got it the way I wanted it to be.

Once it cures, it'll give you a good base to work with, smoothing out the crevices and making it pretty.

Hope this helps,

Bash

Music: Blackstone Cherry - White Trash Millionaire

So, GW Ipswich called me to let me know my Pedro Kantor has arrived in store. So I popped in, and left with more than I had intended:

Not exactly bank breaking, but I couldn't resist the new Sternguard. I have no idea how these guys need outfitting for gaming, so I followed the 'rule of cool'. And gave them Combi-meltas, meltas and the best looking bolters. And a scanner. For science. The Pedro Kantor figure is the first model I've owned made of 'finecast' resin. Not the worst material in the world, but scarily soft. I nearly cut the bloody powerfist in half taking off the Crimson Fist motif. But he's free of any obvious connection with his previous Chapter. So he'll be the new Sergeant for my Sternguard.

Finished the Dreadnought:

Just trying to make a simple adjustment to his pose was a flipping nightmare. Cut here, chop there, shave that, greenstuff this gap. It does change his dynamic, but it took all day to do one knee joint. But I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy it.

That's it for now kids.

Thanks Graven. Any Dreadnought bits would be great. And any Autocannons would be amazing!

Been working on the 2nd Land-buggy. It's a much smaller profile to work with. I'm not enjoying the fact that the regular Land-Speeder is shorter than the Storm. I had to settle on bike wheels, as they don't look so cramped, though they are a tad smaller than I'd like. But hey, it's the 41st Millennium, I'm sure they'll work in some way. I'm going to put some sprue in the gap between the front and rear tyres, to drop it's profile and make it look less like a roller skate. And fabricate some rear fenders. The front fenders have had some card glued in, as they didn't cover the whole wheel. I'll bulk them out with milliput and smooth them off. From the front, it looks alright. It's side profile isn't great, But it's a WIP, so there's always something to add.

The British Army 'Springer' is a good example of what I'm kind of aiming for. From Google:

Here's my Land-Buggy:

That's it for now. Need to let the milliput cure before continuing with gap filling and panel work. If anyone can spare a SM bike wheel, I'd be very grateful!

The Dreadnought may have been a pain to re-pose, but it was well worth it. Makes me regret not doing more pose altering in the 4 I have for my Iron Hands.

I feel that the second land quad looks a tad top heavy, but will hold my tongue until the rear fenders are in place as I think they may increase the bulk at the rear nicely.

Taking on board all that was suggested. I totally agree with all the points about the profile being too high, and Januine confirming my 'roller skate' theory.

So I've stripped it down and rebuilt the back end.

I feel it works better. But feth me its hard trying to scratch build a chassis and not have it look like a Snotling pump wagon.

Any thoughts? I'm thinking of some roll bars to give the front cab some shape, but not raise the height of the buggy. And also some rear fenders and side skirts.

Once the low sides get bulked up, it'll probably lose the board look, and balance the now heavy top.
