That Watch Captain is gorgeous! Really nice work.

Gosh darn I really do love your painting style, I would use stronger language but I might get a warning for it.

Deathwatch Hawk Lord

I've also taken a step towards re-igniting my Sons of Sanguinius side project even though I keep meaning to start prepping the Rapier the Hawk Lord's meant to be spotting for...

IceAngel - wow, man, that's really flattering that you would ask such a thing. Thanks and of course, here's a part breakdown (which is what I presume you meant rather than literally where did I purchase them from)
Head - FW Dark Angel upgrade
Pack - Sternguard kit + head of a Grey Knight warding stave for the iron halo
Torso - Ravenwing Landspeeder Vengeance with chest smoothed down and Grey Knight brass etch symbol added
Left Arm - Vanguard/Sternguard pad, can't remember which,OOP assault squad arm (though it's not like you won't be able to find a similarly posed arm elsewhere in the range) and Anvil Industries gun + scope
Right Arm - FW Mk. IV powerfist + GK brass etch symbol, Deathwatch pad from Commander kit
Legs - Sternguard. Additions: left leg - GK brass etch symbol on the shin (not very visible, but it's there) and a Terminator purity seal on the side.Right leg - press moulded crux from Blood Angels Terminators tilt shield added to the side and a small brass etch aquila put on the scrollwork. Aquila on the butt plate filed off for being rubbish and replaced with brass etch version.

lipsdapips - thank you very much, daunting is very much what I was going for. Very glad that's come across.

Knightley - well thank you, sir.

War Kitten - cheers, he was a labour of love, put even more work into him than I usually do.

That Hawk Lord looks really good, now I'm tempted to try and make my own Deathwatch Kill-Team.

Back with the first Crimson Tears of the new year, part of an effort to actually finish the second company this year.

I shaded the white a touch more lightly than usual, starting with VGC Ghosty Grey rather than building up to it, and the photos just aren't catching it which is a bit annoying. That said, it's the first time Ive had a crack at my 'Tears for a little while so I'm happy I can still do the scheme properly. Pretty pleased with the poses too, it's the devil's own job getting them to actually look like they're doing something believable given GWs laughable attempts to provide parts that go together realistically. The new Assault Squad it is an abomination if you're assembling it stock, so plenty of re-poitioning and alternate parts went into these guys.

War Kitten - Do it, man. It's become one of my favourite projects. Gives you the chance to try a lot of stuff you don't get a chance to usually.

Spectacular army, your marines and Death Watch are certainly drool worthy.

Where did your henchmen/light infantry come from? Are they kitbashes or just some obscure line I don't know?

Kid_Kyoto - Thank you very much. The henchmen are 3rd party kitbashes with the legs, body and arms coming from Maxmini, the heads from Puppetswar and guns from Anvil Industry.

Warboss_Waaazag - cheers, man.

evildrcheese - thanks, I know black white and red aren't exactly re-inventing the wheel, but I like to think I bring a little something to it.

Sergeant Baradiel

Baradiel was initially inducted into the Siege Breakers of the 4th Company as an assault marine. It was quickly noted by his then sergeant that he would typically kill with his bolt pistol rather than his chainsword and carried far more extra ammunition than was regularly issued, an odd affectation considering the chapter-wide veneration for hand to hand combat. Over time it emerged that not only was the pistol his preferred weapon, but that he was uncannily accurate with it. He was promoted to one of the supporting fire teams that followed the first wave of breaching units and seemed in his element with a bolter, notching up a truly astonishing number of confirmed kills with an unprecedented 99% shot accuracy rate as far as tracking data could determine. More than that he possessed a deep, instinctive understanding of the physics behind ballistic warfare and strategy, to the extent that he had taken almost de-facto command of his squad with his sergeant deferring to him on almost all matters. As an experiment he was transferred to the crews of the 4th’s ancient, prized rapiers where he showed an affinity for the quad mortars. Indeed, the company Techmarines were wearied by his curiosity about the relics and his insistence on exacting, near constant maintenance of them. Despite this, and the terrible efficacy with which he commanded the batteries, he was a Crimson Tear after all and while he recognised his proficiency at and inclination toward ballistic combat, he longed to return closer to the battlefront than manning the company’s artillery pieces allowed for. When the opportunity arose he transferred to the 2nd, expecting to serve as a battle brother in a Tactical Squad, but was elevated upon his arrival to Devastator Sergeant with Captain Ezekiel having counselled his counterpart, Nathaniel, that, despite the marine’s youth, a mere 200 years, anything less would be a waste of Baradiel’s considerable acumen and skill. Taking command of Devastators in a company where your immediate counterpart is the near mythical Isaiah Kane would intimidate most, but Baradiel has gone about his business quietly and effectively, impressing all. He takes a less directly combative role than Kane but is no less lethal, his strategic and technical understanding allows him to direct and deploy his squad with a deadly efficiency perhaps unrivalled in the Chapter.

Recently he has sought out Crimson Tears who have returned from Deathwatch duty, intrigued by the additional and experimental technologies purportedly made available during service. From their reports he has produced a modified bolter that incorporates an upsized and much more powerful targeting laser in order to better direct his troops fire in the midst of battle. He is also experimenting with different alloys for his outsized combat blade, trying to forge a weapon every bit as lethal as a Chainsword yet without the drawback of requiring fuel. This, plus his eternal tinkering with his squad’s weaponry, has not escaped Captain Nathaniel’s notice, not least because he receives regular complaints from Chapter Techmarines about Baradiel’s ‘interferences’; complaints that tend to bring a wry smile to Nathaniels lips as he can remember similar things being said about the complainants not so many decades ago. Indeed, he wonders if Baradiel may yet show enough interest to warrant full training on Mars. For now though, the precocious young sergeant seems more than content to simply augment his squad’s armaments and lead them to battle.

As a devastator sergeant he's meant to have a signum, but I loathe the official bit; it's so cumbersome looking. So I've given him what is essentially a combi-markerlight a la my DW Hawk Lord, a servo skull (which, if you look closely has 3 different laser targetters of it's own along with the lens), head with field camera and a scope with the lens painted in a different colour to my ordinary ones in order to try and convey all the optics and targetting technology. He's in a 'scanning battlefield' pose, hence the skull and him facing in different directions. Was going to give him one of the many heads with a bionic eye in my possession, but most of those have the bionics on the right and that would clash with the scope which, I think, makes the gun look much cooler. Those with bionics on the left wouldn't really allow for the head roatation needed to make the pose work.

I named him after the angel of hail as he'll be leading a squad of four heavy bolters when I'm done.

In addition to Baradiel I've finally finished prepping the Heavy Bolter Rapier and painted it's base:

Nowt too exciting but it's slowly coming to fruition as a project. The base is 60mm x 100, Rapiers are actually pretty big! I've got most of the bits for the gunner but I keep flip flopping over what to do with him so haven't included. The targetting thing that comes with the Rapier had a massive airbubble in the lens that I couldnt be bothered to fix, so I was just going to leave it off. Then, I remembered that I had a couple of spare War Drone heads from Anvil's Afterlife range and thought one of those might do the trick with veyr little adjustment. I like it alot, although it being bare resin against a black undercoat does look a little odd.

I've also done a little more planning for life after the 2nd Company now that I'm 7 members short of the full thing, so I present Fireteam 1 in their nascent stages:

The 4th Company have come up in various ways in this thread and I've mentioned how I plan to use the Siege Vanguard list to represent them. However, what's more siege/urban combat than heavy flamer tactical squads? So there'll be some C:BA flavour in there still. I imagine these guys as being first in after the breachers to mop up initial resistance and provide ongoing fire support. Due to this role I wanted them to look a little up-armoured as they won't have :cuss off massive shields to protect them like the Breachers they'd be running alongside/directly behind.

The Emperor's Wrath, Quad-Heavy Bolter Rapier preserved from the days of the Great Crusade. It's provenance prior to being awarded to the Segementum Pacificus Watch Station is unknown. For the last two centuries, an unprecedented period of service, Fists Examplar veteran Niels Goosen has tended to the relic machine lovingly, ensuring that it is as ready for war now as in the days when Primarchs led their chapters to battle and operates it with consummate skill.

I used Reaper Master Series Dark Elf Skin Shadow to give the black of his pad a purple tint to differentiate it from the rest of the black. Forgot to do his left arm silver, but, given hw much silver tthere is on the rest of the model I don't actually think tthat's too much of a problem. Pretty fun model, if frustrating due to the amount of resin involved and how much that hates making edge highlighting easy; the only plastic parts are 3 of the purity seals, his belt accessories and left arm. I had initially resolved to use an earlier armour mark for Niels, but in the end I liked the idea of a veteran operator to go with the relic war machine.
