I like it, especially the Daemon prince, who's my favourite combo as well. Perhaps a touch wargear heavy, almost every squad is (sanely) maxed out, maybe trial a version with a couple less extras (-meltabombs, a couple of fists/specials) and adding another CSM squad with maybe a rocket laucher and IoCG? I'd play either

If I felt like I had an over-abundance of meltaguns, I could always combi-plasma on the termies instead. I want to keep all troops 100% mobile though, so no heavies/rapid fire specials.

The only hesitation I have is rolling a 1 and losing a terminator to a hot 1-shot. That would put me in a very bad mood. (Wouldn't be the first time I've rolled two 1s in a row, haha) But the upside to exchanging meltas for plasmas on that squad is when they DS in, they can't assault anyway, so they may as well unload rapid-fire.

I'll think about it.
Oh, and if the list was bumped to 1,750, I would take away the meltabombs and put in a third full CSM squad for more scoring units. I feel this is as solid a list as any I've made. A lot of people like putting the Lash on a Prince, but I think I prefer keeping him hidden, and letting my opponent waste their heavies on my Prince's 4+ invuln. Thanks for comments and suggestions.

Looks like a great list, and somewhat refreshing to not see 2x Lashprinces, 2x Vindicator and 1 Defiler as the basis of a competitive Chaos list. Tho no big nasty template weapons to team up with the Lash at all seems like a waste, no? Ofc, you can just make people move closer and assault them to death

I play
40k: Evil Sunz Orks, Word Bearers Chaos Marines
WHFB: practically never, but Beasts of Chaos and High Elves a few years ago
Flames of War: US 2nd Armoured Tank Company
Too much Xbox 360

What competitive chaos have you been playing? Its all about obliterators.

@OP:

What do you want by a competitive list? Do you want a list that will do well down at your FLGS or one you can take to tournaments?

If you take that list to tournaments then you will have a lot of trouble, but its ok for a more casual environment.

The main problems are:

20 CSM isnt enough for you to win games. Theyre just too easy to break in combat when under half strength and too easy to simply shoot to death. If you lose those you cant win 2/3rds of the games you'll play.

You dont have any ranged anti-tank. If you're opponent has brought transports then you wont be able to kill them before they get to your lines. If they've gone for heavy armour you wont be able to scratch them at all for a couple of turns.

The demon prince, while good, is rediculously expensive. I dont use that configeration outside of apocalypse, where points not matter. Given constraints of points and FOCs its better to have a lash prince or a nurgle prince. They ill kill just as much bot cost 30-50 less pts.

CSM predators are just bad. Considering what other options there are available to chaos there isnt really any reason to take them in a competitive army.

Your raptors and terminators are both good but i would consider dropping one of them for more scoring units, which you desperately need.

I hate to say it but, outside of a couple very specific builds, the chaos codex is awful at building competitive lists. There are general rules you can follow if you dont want to follow the standard cookie cutter tournament build, but they will all take you in that direction.

1. Cult Marines are some of the best scoring units in the game. Use these as your troops slots. (stay away from 1KSons though, 5th made them terrible)
2. Obliterators are some of the best heavy support in the game. These are your primary anti-tank and primary anti-infantry. Use them unless youre using landraiders.
3. DPs/sorceres are some of the best HQ choices. It use to be solely DPs, but with the new IG they is far too much S6+ firepower so i would lean towards sorcerers.
4. Terminators and Raptors are the only things that should be in your elite and fast attack slots.
5. Everything else in the CSM codes leave a lot to be desired. (lords/dreads/possessed/chosen/CSM/bikers/havocs/predators/defilers/vindivators)

If you want to go to a tournament and do well then the list you have isnt good enough

taking up the mission
Polonius wrote:Well, seeing as I literally will die if I ever lose a game of 40k, I find your approach almost heretical. If we were to play each other in a tournament, not only would I table you, I would murder you, your family, every woman you ever loved and burn down your house. I mean, what's the point in winning if you allow people that don't take the game seriously to live?

I know tournament winners who would agree with everything you said except for Predators and regular CSM troops.
The Termies aren't going anywhere, but I will consider getting a third scoring unit.

Aren't most tournaments 17 or 1850? I thought by making a competitive list of 1500 I was announcing that I wanted a 1500 point army that would be competitive to play...not for a tournament. Generally, I'd say "XXXX point tournament list" if it was. In a tournament, I'd be running 4 troops choices. The only reason I have the Raptors in right now is because they hide the sorc. If I made him a DP, I wouldn't be taking them.
