What do you think the cheapest effective build at 2000 points is?
I was leaning towards High Elves with two dragons maybe, because they are so expensive points wise while being plastic.
What about WoC? They seem pretty solid, and lots of their stuff is available in plastic too.

Is it a requirement that you use GW models exclusively? I was able to make my wood elf army using the following:
WE Battalion: $90 (20 glade guard, 10 dryads, 8 glade riders)
Box of wardancers: $30ish IIRC
Branchwraith from dryad bits
Second-hand:
8 more dryads $5
Alter Noble $2
Converted out of Reaper models:
Treeman (Forgot name but Reaper Warlord series) $12
The rest I converted out of my old mageknight models. These can be found on E-bay very cheaply:
4x Warhawk Riders(glade rider bodies on MageKnight Rock Griffins, common) about $8 total
1x Great Eagle (same model as warhawks) $1
5x Wild Riders(Limited Edition Centaur charectar with Glade Rider spears and glade guard sprue swords, more $$$) $45ish
Wild Rider Noble on Stag (MK Rare Fawn-legged charectar torso mounted on elven steed) about $5
4xTreekin(Oak warriors with dryad bits) $2
Dragon Rider ( GW WE noble on Mageknight Skyshroud griffon, big model) about $25
So for about $225 I made an over 2500 pt army that looks nice and is unique and awesome

Heh, cool, using mageknight figures. Interesting. I'd prefer it to be all GW, but thanks for that, it was interesting.
Hell, why not. Cheapest and most effective proxie army too, if people are interested.

Lizardmen are nice too.
Saurus plastic
Skink plastic
3 Types of Stegadon All plastic ( which includes priest and heroes)
I think they are considered best of their type ( core / skirmisher / monster )

WoC are indeed relatively cheap. The only really expensive things are the metal characters. Because they tend to be a tough and strong elite army, you don't have to buy much but you don't have to worry about your army sucking.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made. |

With this I must agree. Figure out two compatable lists, and this is a win/win.
Maybe not the cheapest, but very much effective.

If you don't have a lot of money right now, maybe you should just save it for awhile until you can afford an army or build it very slowly over time.
But if you want effective it's Chaos Demons.

Drop Trooper with Demo Charge

My army build for Lizardmen was relatively cheap.
Battalion
Box of Temple Guard
Box of Skinks
Slann
2 Stegadons
That's a 2250 point army right there, without a whole lot of "points sinkage" and even at full retail it's 275. With discounts, it's even cheaper. You can make a Saurus Hero out of the Cold One Knight champion bits too.

For cheap and decent I'd go with WoC. Knights & Warriors have a great $ to point ratio. Just mod up the characters and you can easily go all plastic...including a dragon.

2012- stopped caring
Nova Open 2011- Orks 8th Seed---(I see a trend)
Adepticon 2011- Mike H. Orks 8th Seed (This was the WTF list of the Final 16)
Adepticon 2011- Combat Patrol Best General |

Not elves.
ALL of their specials are metals.
I'd say Ogres or Warriors of Chaos.

I bought the WoC book today. With a little help from my Shaggoth and maelstrom, I can afford an all mounted, 2000 army for under a hundred euro!
Nearly all plastic? Sweet.
Looks tactically interesting? Sweet.
Different to anything else I have? Sweet.
Gonna look really nice? SWEET.
