new piece... the 3 lined up is a full 4 feet so I still need another 4 for a normal sized necromunda board. I doubt I'll stop there though, I have a lot of ideas for multi-square pieces that I want to save until I have 9 like this.

The catwalks are foamcore with wire grating on top. I too am looking forward to seeing it with paint on it, but I want to build the first 9 blocks before I even start with the paint. I have an airbrush that I intend to use to do the bulk of the non-detail work but I'm not terribly experienced with it.
I planned this board out in sketchup and posted some of the concept work a short while ago:
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/237558.page
I've deviated a good deal from the sketchups but building them first in sketchup really helped me get the dimensions right.
The hardest part in the building process has been getting the walkways positioned right on each side. In fact a number of the pieces you see are still not glued down to their masonite bases. The method I've been using to get them right is taking another piece of masonite with the premeasured walway locations drawn on and holding it against the piece I am working on with a square to keep the angle right.
The standard I'm using is 16" by 16" squares with 2" wide catwalks at 2"-4", 7"-9" and 12"-14". The middle one is 5" from the ground and the outer ones are 2.5" from the ground. The buildings on the cut-off building pieces extend to 10" in from the corner, while the floors extend back to 4" and 6" from the building face and the roof only extends 2" back on the sides. Soon I plan to make one of the building face pieces seen in the sketchups.
There will be a piece of PVC cut in half lengthwise (such that it looks half burried) running under the 5" walkways along the ground. The pipes will connect to eachother and to objects on the square. I was considering placing valves every so often along the pipes so you could arrange the board for a scenario where one team is trying to cut off fuel or water to a specific location from all sides. I'm looking for other ideas like that for things to put on the terrain that could be used as part of an objective in a special scenario so suggestions are more than welcome.

Yeah. I've been playing games workshop games since second edition 40k, and I've dabbled in nearly every miniature game that games workshop has produced since and Necromunda is still my favorite. I wish GW would be kind enough to come out with an update to necromunda bringing in some newer 40k rules and maybe adding a touch of kill-team and all that =I=munda stuff on these forums. But then again, why promote a game that only earns them $40 per player when you can promote apocalypse.

Well I've been trying to take the constraints of these damned human hands into account when building this stuff. With my last board, getting your hands in some places was impossible. There has still been a little difficulty playing test games on this board but with everything more locked in place nothing breaks or falls over.

Thanks for all the compliments, At this point I'm gonna finish what I've been doing with the cardboard on all the corners and railings and then it will be time for basing and rubbling. Only once that is complete will it be time to paint.
I'd love some suggestions for the next few phases.
In the meantime, heres some more pics

Thanks for the compliments everybody. I'd love to hear some recommendations for detailing and painting. I have a decent airbrush and I've been doing a lot of experimentation but I cant come up with something I really feel fits this board. The problem is that the buildings all have to be the same color if they are going to continue to be as modular as they are now and I dont want it to look too similar to my other board (mostly black and gray with copper/brass trim in places).
Migsula- First, your work is fantastic, a compliment means a lot coming from you. Second, years ago I was involved in the commission model painting business. I have considered doing commission terrain work, unfortunately given the hours I put into it, I'd have to charge more than most people want to pay. I'd also be terrified that shipping would absolutely destroy this stuff. On the other hand, if anybody is interested, let me know and maybe I can throw an estimate your way.

Loken- Please link me to a video or at least a picture of this map... I'm fascinated by your comment, and almost feel like finding myself a copy of fire warrior just to see it. (perhaps it will give me some ideas for paint schemes)

I may need to closely document the early construction stages in the next piece to show people my foamcore technique, but I'll do my best to describe it.
I cut 3/16" wide grooves in walls for the floors. To make the grooves I cut through the first card layer and the foam layer at where I want the floor to be and without cutting the second card layer, then I scrape off the foam layer between the lines. I use a similar method to make inside corners, just vertically and ultimately folded inwards over one of the lines, tucking the opposing lip. outside corners just take one slice through the foam and bend. I try to make as much as I can out of each piece, laying them out in sketchup first, and folding them into their intended form. I use long flat headed sewing pins and pva glue to hold everything together. The way the pieces of vertical and horizontal foam lock together plus all the pins does a pretty good job of keeping them from warping. Most of the large building pieces have completely impassible bottom floors with huge piles of rubble that double as supports for the building. Most buildings also have a number of right triangle shaped supports embedded under the floors against the walls.
The cardstock trim started as an aesthetic choice to cover visible seams and exposed foam (I dont mind the foam on bombed out parts but it looks ugly in less damaged areas, but I think it strengthens everything especially in the corners. The catwalks have lots of supports. Originally I had planned on making the ground level fairly open, but with all the supports I decided to put rubble around all of them making a maze of rubble stalagmites. The rubble doesn't really make sense in some places but it looks way better than flat foamcore supports at right angles to each other all over the place.
We have been playing necromunda on it for a while now, pretty much since the moment i finished building the 4th piece. While it was small we were playing a little variant on the necromunda rules with a touch of video game thrown in. In short, 4 gangers w. stub gun and knife, Playing with weapon pickups and respawning at set points. usually capture the flag. It's aready a lot of fun to play on.
As far as painting is concerned. I really need suggestions. I don't really want to do the textured paint thing I did on my last board, and I don't want it to look so monotone and gray. The only think i really have my mind set on is a lot of yellow and black caution striping. I've been playing around with my airbrush on little dummy pieces I make and I've come up with some things I like but not quite enough to commit quite yet.

Here's the deal: I've been busy and distracted for a long time now, and these boards have been taking up an enormous amount of space.
While it breaks my heart to say this, I've been thinking about selling this board, as well as my other inquisitorial palace board off unfinished as-is. They have progressed a little since the last post but not a lot. I don't know if this is within the rules of this forum but I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions on how I might go about selling these (any websites? maybe just through dakka?) and how much money you think I should ask. If anybody really wants to make an offer, feel free to PM me. I live in philadelphia, PA, USA so if anybody is nearby I'd definitely give a discount to anybody willing to come get them. For anybody who buys this i will include detailed schematics and measurements such that you may finish it properly (or even expand on it.) and painting is completely up to you.
Thanks for all your suggestions, guys. I'm sorry I cant show you a finished product but if i find the time, maybe i'll post a few pics of its current state.
sincerely,
The OP lost in the underhive

I know it. but I haven't played a games workshop game in over a year, and these boards take up a stupid amount of space. Anyway, I've always enjoyed the planning and constructions stages of these projects more than the games themselves... which is why I always get stuck about where i am. I don't need a lecture on whether or not I should be selling these, just some advice on how and for how much.
