So i just started painting for the first time. I Have about a 2k templar army so the color scheme is pretty simple. all the guides i've read say to thin down the paint and what not. But i still seem to get a real thick look.

When painting the white shoulders, it seems to take about 7 coats just to make the black base coat finally dissapear. is this normal??
what are some methods to thin the paint?

I'm trying to get a feel for painting but at this point i just wanna prime them black again and call it good! ><

any tips will be appreciate

Use white paint on primers imo for the shoulder.

lighter colors (white yellow some greens) tend not to cover well over dark colors (black blue red purple) unless you apply them thick. my advice is prime in white or cover parts you dont want white and use a spray. use normal white paint at a mixer or for highlights

The best way to tell you is this.
Prime with a dark grey primer. Paint all the armor except the areas to be painted white black.
Starting with adept battle grey paint lighter and lighter grey till you get to white.
To help with thick paint you need a mixing pallet. A piece of white and a piece of dark tile.
You want the consistency of the paint just thin enough to barely see the tile under the paint.
Hope that helps.
