The Last Chancer Who Survived

I just made a reply to one of my posts where I made a reply after my previous post the day before, and it just combined my new post with the old one, and didn't bump my message or mark the topic as unread.

I guess this was added to prevent needless bumping and I'm all for that.

But does this happen all the time? Like the project logs for instance. I haven't edited my Leviathan blog post in a long time. When I want to add a reply with new pics to it, will my post still be 12 pages down on the list and no one will see that I've updated it?

Can this feature be shut off for certain forums? or given a timer where it will make it a new reply if it's been a few hours? or something like that?

It only occurs if:
- it has been less than 24 hours (to prevent bumping / accidental double posts)
- you have not added an attachment to the new post
- it is not the survivor games forum
- there has not been a reply to your post since you posted last

What a nice feature Lego! I love it!

Not only does it stop spamming, bumping, and general idiocy, it has the bonus of increasing my laziness! Now I no longer have to hit the edit button to add a line or two!

Oh BTW you do a great job!

I just added photos to a post and it appended without bumping, so something is broken.

Could you at least link to the post please? You added them as an attachment and not just as an img right?

No, apparently I don't know what an attachment is, I thought image would be the same thing.

In that case it's still lame that attaching an image doesn't count as an update. I guess the remedy is to always wait 24 hours before doing anything, but was double post that big of a problem?

Yes it was very annoying to deal with double posts, bumping, +1 posters, etc.

Also, could you link to the thread in question please... the more undesired appends that I see, the more likely it becomes that I can see new patterns to look for to work around it and prevent undesired appends.

It really sucks for the Dakka Fiction forum. Can you please remove this feature from that forum?

I can't link with my iPhone but the last post in my story Phoenix Rising on Dakka Fiction is what I am talking about Lego.

I'm not sure I see the problem besides having to go back in and edit out the 'automatically appended next post' message. All it does is make text easier to read and less split up by signatures?

If a post/story is long enough, it will not append the next post, but for shorter paragraphs it will.

You want people to know when you add another section to a story so they can read it if they so wish.

: )

OK I'll disable it for the fiction forum. This will only take effect when we have a new release, which will be up to a couple of weeks as I'm preparing an upgrade to the dakka server right now that is taking all my free time.
