Anyone know or tried before? I have tried it on the crystal parts , but never on the rods.

well, the crystal parts and the rods are the same material, so I would hazard a guess that they would have the same or very similar effect.

Its abit difference as in crystal have 2 sides ( inside and outside before i glue them together )

rod is just.... rod all around. when i sprayed the portal piece and the crystal piece from the inside , it looks like....

those hologram stickers in those gifts shops.

What colour wash?

This makes a big difference.

Might i suggest spraying them white first?

I doubt the wash would stay on if you just applied it directly to the rod, however the darker colors and ones with a red tint might work well if the wash stays on the rod.

Hmm it wont be transparent anymore :<

I was going to mix floor wax into it.

London (work) / Pompey (live, from time to time)

Inks / washes simply run off of them, ive tried several times
also, to get the paint in the right consistancy to stick it would kill off the transparent look.

Best bet is buying the coloured rod instead, otherwise it could be painstaking hours of testing :(

Well, devlan mud and badab black didn't do much to my bits of sprue (unless I sanded the plastic a little first, then it made it go all dark and muddy).

(I don't have any others yet. )

Not Devlan mud.

I've not tried sepia or ogryn flesh as of yet (not enough flesh showing on my SM) and i've only just started assembling my catachans into penal battalion for my guard.

I've got to get some orange paint (close to Gitmo orange) and some flesh wash and an orange wash on the weekend to paint them up.

The null zone

I have to say Luna, that your post is so vague that it is not surprising that you have not had any qualified answers yet (no offence to the posters meant)

What exactly are you looking to achieve? Do you want the green rod to take on a different hue, or do you want a different colour other than? Do you still want it to be transparent or opaque?

In either regards, here are my suggestions:
Opaque: spray it with the model and paint it as normal
Transparent: Buy different coloured rod OR mix in pva glue with the ink to wash over- this should make it adhere. Otherwise glass paint is the other alternative, but this can make it sticky.

I hope that this helps?

it won't help when you are dead you know?

Just a thought, but the smooth surface of the plastic rod will likely just slide the wash around and pool up in places where it an no longer slide to. I don't think you'll get any good adherence. However, if you carefully hit it with some VERY fine grit sand paper, that could rough it enough for a little traction.

Of course, the opacity could suffer some, too.

Testors and Tamiya have transparent paints. If you use one of those its a matter of knowing Green+XXXX=YYYYY.

Washes will give you at best a wavy coloration and will not be a uniform change in color. The wash will pool where it likes and leave sections unpainted.

AKA has the best advice here, however remember that these are not tints. They tend to really cover the original cover and do still affect the transparancy so I would recommend trying different color rods or get clear rods and hit them with the testors stuff. THe washes just dont stick to the clear plastics and actually it is hard to get some of the paints to stick to em too...

I do what the voices in my wifes head say...

The ogryn flesh is the closest to flesh wash I think, its definitely more pink than the sepia which is more yellow.

I wonder if you were to spray the rod with 'dull coat' first, you could get the wash to stick ? i.e. give it something it can key to, but is still transparent.

If you wanted a transparent colour (ie a wash) to stick to a shiney (un-primed) surface - you could mix the wash with 'ardcoat. That may work... (meaning I havent tried it, its just a suggestion).
