I have just picked up the Imperial Guard codex today and after having a quick read and deciding on Cadians I want to try and differentiate them just a little. I am looking at simple bits like changing the heads and I have eyed up these 2 sets from pig iron productions.

or these ones

I'm thinking standard light / medium brown overalls and want to look to do the red armour camo scheme utilising the dark red grey and black scheme.

Main thing is I have seen conversions of the top heads and they work well but do you think the 2nd set of heads will work on a cadian sprue?

I use the top ones, they are good. I got mine on Bretonian Men at Arms bodies and they look pretty good.

I think its about how techy you want your cadians to look. If your going for that "just survived WWII" 40k aesthetic the top helmets are better. If you're going for a scifi more like star wars or mass effect the second helmet would be better.

i agree with the others. the top ones look better imho. at least i though the ones i made did. i'm actually going to sell the 20 of the bottom ones i have.

I like the second set personally. I think the top set would work well if you were doing Vracks or Armageddon. The bottom heads look more like a 40k century army to me hehe. I think they would go better with what your state your paint scheme is too.

Check the gallery, search for Pig Iron, there's tons of examples of how the heads look on GW figures.

EDIT - here's 4 pages to get you going.

I'm using the second of your examples, and really liking the effect. Some examples below, but check out my P&M blog or gallery page for more. If you get the Heavy Infantry mixed head pack then there are some other neato heads with and without helmets. I particularly like the closed helmet with the additional optics attached.

Oh they are awesome. That was exactly the picture I was looking for to see what they would look like. Are they the weapons from the heavy infantry as well?

The rifles and carbines are from Hasslefree. They have a range of generic weapons and I liked the look of the bullpup set. They need a bit of trimming to fit the weird arm dimensions of the Guard but I think they look pretty good

So far I have only seen those two types of heads available in bulk.
Does anyone know of other companies that make loose heads?

I was tempted by the G36s and the SA-80s but decided in the end I should go for something a little more sci-fi-ey and generic
