This is my first P&M blog. As a warning, I love to model, but dislike painting. Hopefully this blog will help my completely finish this force. I love to write fluff as well, so as my concept of my Traitors come together you should get some good short stories as well.

This army will be based off the new Imperial Guard codex and (when it is released) Imperial Armour 7. I will use the IG codex for all standard games, but since the force will be Nurglesque, IA7 will be the perfect opportunity to broaden my force (as it will feature Plague Marines, as IA6 featured Beserkers, as Elites; hopefully all in the "new" codex format).

Here is the usual color guide for how I've been doing. I just haven't updated in a bit.
Red: unassembled or partially assembled
Yellow: assembled and/or partially painted
Green: assembled and fully painted

This a refreshed look at my goals:

Melta Veteran Squad A
Melta Veteran Squad B
Plasma Veteran Squad A
Melta CCS
Flamer PCS
Psyker Battle Squad
Infantry Squad A

Alternative PCS (cannot decide on weapons)
Infantry with Grenade Launcher / Autocannon:
Squad B
Squad C
Squad D
Hellhound 1
Hellhound 2
LRBT 1
LRBT 2
Demolisher 1
Demolisher 2
Vanquisher
Chimera 1
Chimera 2
Chimera 3
Chimera 4
Chimera 5
Centaur/Chimera

Chimera 6
Chimera 7
Chimera 8

The force will include LRBT variants to distract from the Chim rush, but not much conversion will be applied there. My main focus will be giving my foot soldiers a sense of personality and make them feel fallen to Nurgle and traitorous; not just red or black with spikey bits. The actual army list is attached, but not a focal point of this thread; feel free to PM any list comments to me though. All C&C is welcome! Pictures will be up tonight!

BRAINSSSS.....

Awesome work, I love zombies! My favourite has to be the zombie with the hand grenade!

I know what you mean about modeling and painting, sometimes I feel the same and I love building stuff. Often too often, as it leaves large piles of unpainted projects lying around!

The great thing about zombies though is that a messy painting style suits them, gore, slime, blood splatter. So they can be something you can really have fun with when painting.

@Gundam: All I have lying around right now are unpainted armies, besides my gold GKs I did when a started and the Nids I dipped, I can never scratch up the motivation. This blog is working though. Thanks!

@Deff Dread: Originally the idea came from using "Chenkov" and the Zombies in 1ks, but it isn't tactically sound alone (and costs a lot of points). So I am leaning towards Veteran all mounted, with so heavier armor to draw fire. This is a quick 1k I am considering my base, and will probably turn into a 1.5k or 2k force, maximum:

CCS 50
4 MG 40
Chim 55
--145--

Vets 70
3 MG 30
Chim 55
--155--

Vets 70
3 MG 30
Chim 55
--155--

Vets 70
3 PG 45
Chim 155
--170--

PBS 110
Chim 55
--165--

LRBT
--150--

Hydra
--75--

The armor at the end is really just to fill points/draw fire. Thanks!

@Breizheker: I'll have my own horde soon and can take some dramatic "last stand" shots, haha. Thanks!

AAAAAARGHHH! Mould lines! AND GS fingerprints! AAAAAAARRRGHHHHHHHH!

Jeez, that's ironic. I see an army that looks like a horror movie incarnate in plastic, and I worry about mould lines and fingerprints. I need to get a life...

Seriously, can't wait to see more.

I know. I'm evil.
I saw weird stuff in that place last night. Weird, strange, sick, twisted, eerie, godless, evil stuff. And I want in.

Hahaha, no no no I know exactly what you mean! These guys were just going to be for testing a 40k skirmish type game, so I didn't care about the modeling problems since there will be sixty, but now looking at them up close - I gotta fix that.

Mainly because the zombies made mostly of skeleton bits (not pictured) have a lot of GS flesh added to them with a bit of fingerprinting. I'll just make sure to sand a bit before priming.

Hey Dakka! Before I start really digging in and converting my line troops and FW troops, I need your help!

I have not done much work with greenstuff and do not have a hoppy shop nearby. I have only ever used GW greenstuff and it definitely does not have the consistency I would prefer.

Maybe I am just doing something wrong. I want to duplicate many Nurgle effects I have seen, like the tutorials on the GW site (which I can't find right now :( )

So before I press on in my grand traitorous endeavor, what kind of GS and what tools would you suggest for a simple to average modeler? Right now I use GW GS, and exacto knife and me fiiiingas! Thoughts?

Hey, could you post some pics of your Catachan Kroot Conversions?

As for the tools for modeling you can get plumber's putty from a local Lowe's or Homedepot and it's about the same but much cheaper. You can also get clay modeling tools from a local craft store, they look like paint brushes with rubber tips.

@ Commisar00: I may have worded that incorrectly. They are Catachans that count as Kroot and look like Human Auxiliaries. They have Kroot bits and Kroot rifle muzzles along with some Tau torsos etc.

They are meant to resemble defended Guardmen that joined the Tau immediately after a lost campaign. I will still snap shots of them tonight.

Also, I just snapped some progress pics but I have work. I will edit this post with updates tonight. Thanks!

------------------ EDIT ------------------

  • This is the Champion from the FW CCS, but I will likely use him to represent Chenkov, or Bastonne more likely (closer to WYSIWYG):

  • Two of my Vets:

  • My regular Renegades:

  • Flamers for my PCS:

  • My test for Infantry sergeant (yes, I will fix his neck and mould lines):

  • Vets and Infantry awaiting arms, plus one of the CCS plasmagunners:

  • My first Vets sergeant (which I think came out very nicely):

  • This is an example of what I plan to use for my Armored Sentinels. Would you have a problem with this as a gamer? Is the model to small compared to a real Sentinel? I plan to mount them on 60mm bases instead of 40mm:

  • My Infantry heavy variant of the Vet list will have many Autocannon teams:

  • With removable spotters to account for wounds:

  • And here's the team awaiting bases:

  • Thanks for reading, chiiiildren. This is Smashotron, signing off! Smmmmmash!

Sorry, I have been moving into a new house but still building. I will snap some photos after I pick up some Planetstrike stuff today.

    @freaky angel:

The vet sarge's arm is a combination of three things simply by chance:
    1 catachan lasgun arm
    1 necromunda enforcers laspistol
    1 fw enforcer shoulder pad

The bases pictured are from Resin Forge. They were a fair price. The majority of the army is based on bases by Back2Base-ix, using Dirt bases, but the Resin Forge Skull bases where just for extra detail here an there. I actually prefer Back2Base-ix and strongly recommend them. Their quality and prices are great.

    Group shot soon.

So I have been busy. I moved apartments, I built more Guard, blah blah blah. Anyway, I need Dakka's help on base color scheme. I painted four quick tests, and I am struggling to choose between two. I plan to run a brown wash then highlights over whichever base I choose. Here they are:

hey love the zombiees, i remember in one of the white dwarfs back during the medusa campaign they did a army like this but with custom rules. i also though about basing a traitor army on the guard codex, i though taking iron hand straken as a chaos space marine lord to lead the army and ogryns as over bloated slow deathguard marines with 3 wounds ea!

Been a while, folks. Here's the news:
I have set aside painting all my zombie conscripts to finish painting the models I actually use the most (Vets, Guardsmen, Chims)
I tied with the 707th in a 40k club campaign and had been painting the whole time.
I finally tried out the Dakka gallery.

    Let's check out m progress!

Here is the "Iron Armed Earl", the traitor lord of Nergal VII. Count-as Straken.

I will post my Psyker Battle Squad shortly, I just got a replacement for my broken camera! Its a pretty good camera.

As a side note, this is a test model for Heavy Infantry teams (SoB). I wanted to call them the "Brotherhood of Nurgle", but my club mates started calling them "Bros of Battle" because I used them as Allied Sisters of Battle. I considering them Heavy Infantry teams that are better armed due to being zealous devotees to the Great Unclean One. They will be more "Nurgled-up" conversion-wise. Let me know what you think.

    The parts are:
    Pig Iron helmet
    Guardsman torso
    Scout Legs
    Scout Bolter arms
    trimmed Marine shoulderpads
    old school Marine Powerpack

edit: both my photobucket and dakka gallery are being weird so here are the direct links for now. I'll post the pics once the Dakka Gallery stops uploading them as pure black.

The Plague Zombies are a kitbash of WHFB Skeletons, WHFB Zombies and Imperial Guardsmen. I bought a box of each (back when Guardsmen came 20 per box) and made 60 Zombies, some of them are terrible though, but I may try to greenstuff some clothing/rags, ripped/draping flesh, and a bit of exposed musculature to make them decent looking, and gruesome.

edit: come to think of it, I started painting some of the zombies in different Guardsmen colors (the colors of loyalist forces destroyed by the Nergal Hounds) and I can post pics of them for critique, tomorrow.

Here are some shots of my completed units. First squad is Melta Vet 1, usually with Chimera.

Second squad is Melta Vet 2, usually with Chimera.

Here is my Plasma Vet squad, usually with Harker and Autocannon.

Here is my flamerthrower Platoon Command Squad.

These are my Psykers and the gentleman with the two-handed Chain Axe is my Executioner - er, I mean "Overseer".

This is the color scheme for my Zombies/Conscripts. What do ya think? I wanted something contrasting from my colors, but the yellow and blue make me think "Coast Guard". They were red and grey originally, but I felt the red armor would take away from the fresh and dried blood that would be all over them.

Splendid army! I think you can have the yellow on the zombies, but use the bone coulor on them like the rest of your infantry?? and maybe give their armour a more coroded look to them, just some thoughts.
I think they will look better with the same cloth colour, make a test model with all the washes and show and maybe you'll settle for that
