So.. like I said in the presentation topic I'm brand new to this and only working with digital images earlier my going to an actual brush with actual, wet paint was at first an extremely analog experience. My patiance was way down and I just wanted to know if I had it in me to make minis or not. And since I was extremely impatient thingsand I didn't even wait for all of the colors to arrive by mail things got a little messy for my first guy.
At first I was kind of happy with just getting color on a little guy so I was actually quite satisfyed with my brown little.. abomination. Then I started looking close at him and thinking my brushtechnique through and I started noticing how.. messy.. he was. Kind of a setback I guess since I was really annoyed about how watery the GW colors were. One day later my order of Vallejo colors arrived and I was on fire over how they worked, wich gave birth to my second mini, this guy, my Space Marine Chapter prototype:
I was torn between this WWII-green and a desert one I had in mind but since the Deathwing kind of already picked desert for theirs, I went with green. That and I didn't really have the patience to find a desert color that I really liked (I order like seven different desert-colors and none of them were just right).
So now I'm just into the labor of basecoating 40-something marines in the perfect shade of green.
And above is a prototype squad kind of.. working out the kinks with the brush and highlight colors and stuff.
Und hier is the sergeant prototype. I'm kind of really falling in love with this color actually.

Those look nice, and pretty original. You don't see many SM chapters in camo colors. Should open up lots of possibilities for the vehicles.

Still working out highlight/lines colors and brush tech so it's definately not final (my making up for my poor brush skill).

These look really good, lifter. You did a pretty good job of staying in the lines and the line highlighting is clean for a first attempt. I've always been a big fan of the subdued, military look for SM armies, moreso that the bright, "look-at-me" schemes pimped by the Studio. My only criticism would be in the prep work. You're going to see this a million times in these forums, but mold lines really do stand out on completed figes. Take a few extra minutes before painting and make sure you've knocked them down with your hobby knife or file.
Oh, and a note about scale: the basing material you used is a bit too coarse, IMO. It just looks unnatural and draws attention to the fact that this is a tiny little plastic soldier. I would go with some fine grain sand and then mix in some of that larger gravel to break up the flat plain of the base.

Seconded. Kudos to you for actually basing him though. Kick ass. I agree with Armyman, though, break it up a little. Also, is the base's rim gold? I suppose it's all a matter of taste, but the base is supposed to represent the ground the model is standing on. That's why we base it like we do. The bases's rim should be an extention of that "ground" representation. Gold is unnatural.

the_armyman, hehe, yeah. The moldlines. When I did these guys I was like "molda-whatnow?" so the next 20 in line has gotten their surgery already. Poor things.
Yeah, and the base. I know it's a little too big but thats all my local GW-shop had except for grass (and only girls run around in grass). It really bothers me that it's too big, I have to find some smaller real soon when it comes to not making prototypes but the actual army.
Ghidorah, yeh, it's gold. I figured since there's no questioning he's a miniature and he does belong to a marker type game, why not make a base that stands out? I'm not sure if i'm gonna actually use the golden brim but we'll see. You're probably right and I probably won't. Your words will probably echo in my head when I think about it
Thanks for your comments, all of you.

Why buy little pebbles when there's plenty of free stuff laying around on the ground? Go to a playground, take a zip-top baggie with you and grab a handful of playground sand. Or a beach, or your neighbors' child's sandbox, or a construction site... If you're afraid of germs or little critters that may be in the sand, dump the sand onto a cookie sheet and pop it into a pre-heated oven for 10-15 minutes. Guaranteed to be sterile and free of (live) bugs after that!
Alternatively, if you're really in the mood to spend money, go to a home improvement store and you can buy 10-20 kilo bags of stuff in all sorts or grain sizes and consistencies. That way, you can base the next 100 armies you build as well as a couple dozen gaming tables

Hmm.. that makes serious sence.
Now.. playgrounds.. where do you find those things?

I really like that color scheme, and your highlting looks fine too. As for the color on the side of your bases, I find that a really dark purple (almost black) looks great. I use it on my army and it makes them look pretty nice.

First thing I'm making is a 1000pts-list and the only vets in that list are the termies.
Though I am more and more leaning towards sternguard but I'm a bit afraid of metal models. These 20 are my first models ever (except for the two in the first post) and I'm not even used to plastic yet.

Nice job on the Razorback, lifter. Your drybrushing is spot on, and the extra kit and stowage makes these guys look like they've been on campaign for a while. However, that vehicle is just screaming for some details. A few decals and possibly some battle damage (if that's your preference) would bump this vehicle up to the next level, IMO.

Great color scheme with very simple execution, brother! Have you considered making them the Raptors Chapter circa 3rd War for Armageddon? They share the same color scheme as you Marines.

Marshal2Crusaders, thanks, yeah, I thought about it but I scraped the idea since the raptors don't do assaultsquads mutch.
Armyman, yeah, the only thing left on the rhino are some markings (numbers and arrows and chaptersymbols and such) just a tad bit of battledamage (not really fond of that one, but who knows, I might start loving it once I try it) and alot of dust is going on the RZB.
Restofya, Thanks! Glad you like them.
