I'm starting a dwarf army. So far I've got two BoSP and a box of Thunderers. In addition I've got a runesmith. I'm going to make a big purchase in the next few weeks. I was thinking an anvil, a lord, a battalion box, two bolt throwers. I'm planning on running a balanced list. Suggestions from any veteran dwarf players are welcome.

PROSECUTOR: By now, there have been 34 casualties.

im not vet, but a warmachine for every 500 points is a good ratio for dwarfs. i dont know whats in the batallion box, but i suggest some blocks. the anvil is fun, if you get a lord get him with shieldbearers they are really good for a built in amazing armor save and immune to KB. i would also pick up an organ gun.

I'd say:

Anvil: Always a good choice, can't go wrong.

Two Bolt Throwers: Also never a bad choice.

Grudge Thrower: I'd use this rather than 2 BT's, only because it kills horde-troops better.

a 2nd Organ Gun: Trust me, these will be fun.

Hammerers: Alternatively, this unit is not only good in combat but will NEVER break if you put a Dwarf Lord in the unit.

Some people play to win, some people play for fun. Me? I play to kill toy soldiers.

i was all about the hammerers whn i first started, but really i find myself getting charged more then charging and getting cut down before these boyz can shine. ive moved to ironbreakers, i like the models better, and while they are only str 4 they can really bunker down and take hits.

ive never tried a grudge thrower personally, but i mught pick one up in the future.

Bear in mind that until you hit 3000 points, you won't be able to use a Dwarf Lord and a Runelord in the same game. So if money is an issue, pick one. I think generally speaking the Anvil Runelord is considered more competitive if you want to survive against the big three (Demons, Dark Elves, Vampire Counts).

If you do go with a Dwarf Lord, the shield bearers are a no-brainer.

I would personally advocate for a gyro. Fun and provides some things you can't get anywhere else in the list.

i second both points from the poster above me.

i originally got into dwarfs for a competetive army (well more competative then ogres, and my lizzies are still getting a facelift with the new book).

i like the dwarf lord, he can be ultra killy and hard as nailz, and he can be avoided easily, so your 250+ point killy lord ' o ' doom will do nothing all day. i tried the anvil twice and got alot more out of it. 9 times out of ten i just blasted stuff, but the free march or charge for a unit gives dwarfs a real edge and suprise.

and the gyro is just amazing. the march blocking, the block killing. its a really good unit i think, definatly run one at 2k points and higher.
