I hate it when I'm bummed. It really causes discomfort for a while in that region.

Seriously, I feel sorry for you. Isn't there anywhere you could work, even as a cashier?

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

It actually differs by state.

Illinois has a $7.75 Minimum Wage and it is going up to $8 in July.

We have one of the highest minimum wages.

Oregon has the highest with $8.55 and the lowest any state can go is $6.55, which a few states do. (Wyoming pays $5.15, not sure why, the douchebags)

you could try at a gas station.
they generally need help, and you meet interesting/crazy people.

my first job was at one, granted this years ago and the pay minimum wage, back when min wage was more around 5 bucks an hour.

But i did get to meet a lot of strange an unusual people, and the work isn't that bad

Is dead when I'm through with it.

I'd like to empathise, but I didn't have a job before I was 18 (and thus getting adult rates of pay) - but then, 40k didn't happen until the year after, either. Mind you, back then, stuff was cheaper (and I was only on $11 an hour)

You'll cope. I know a heap of guys who are minimum wage burger flippers. Those joints are usually hiring.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

Being serious for a moment.

Unless you have summer school then I highly suggest you clean yourself up, get some half decent clothes/shoes, practice your interview skills with your parents, and go seek work at a retailer or restaurant.

She Who Must be Obeyed and I are in agreement that all persons should be employed for some period of time in retail or restaurants as:
1. Its excellent motivation to continue your education;
2. It gives you a perspective you will keep your remaining days on what it is like to work in that position and deal with cranial/rectal inversions.

Remember and here really are words of wisdom to you youngins (again from She Who Must Be Obeyed). When dating someone watch how they treat waitstaff. This is how they will treat you once the 'new' has worn off. If they give courtesy back then they are good people. If they are s to them then they will be s to you. Its a law of nature.

Why would that be any different from any other line of work?

People tend to treat you differently when you work at that level.

Isn't bummed a dirty term in Britain? I remember saying bummer and someone looking strangely at me...
Anyway, I worked as a janitor in a factory for a while. Paid $12/hour. Poop jobs pay decent. (har har)

You're right. Doesn't have the same effect however.

I worked as a defacto carnie for my first job. I remember when a kid climbed into the gears/engine compartment. Still get the shivers thinking about that.

The Wife understands why I would never take the kids to pop up fairs.

They are harried and have little power. People who have issues often are overbearing, look down on them etc.

Retail is separate although it sometimes occurs. Its more of Whatwhat's 'welcome to Heck' jobs that makes spoiled brat teenagers more appreciative of life, especially of those who don't have the opportunities they have.

All being mean aside, if you don't mind cleaning up some poop you could always go for a position somewhere as a PCT or orderly. Medical field is always growing, we need the people. The desensitized ones, preferably.

Part of the difficulty for our young Padiwon, at least round here, is that most of the minimum wage positions are now handled by illegal aliens. To quote my construction contractor neighbor from Saturday "I don't hire white guys. They complain too much." Surly teenager who complains about not getting enough allowance vs. guy who just travelled 1500 miles just to get this job-no contest.
