Well I went to my local Games Workshop today and picked up an Epidimius box and plaguebearers box. Now, on the back of the box it says "this box contains 5 metal Plaguebearers of Nurgle"....
SCORE!!
In MY box I have 6 Plaguebearers of Nurgle!!
Ha! Gamesworkshop- Nil.... Jack- One!

I dont know about that. If GW runs by the retail formula of most places I have worked in the past, GW made 18 pounds over cost, and you got a free model that retails for about 2.50 pounds. Looks like they still got you.

Unfortunately, I seriously doubt GW has such high margins.

Markup is high, but the profit margin is low, looking at their financial results.

Actually, I have been told that their markup is anywhere from 200-400% of production costs, which is actually the norm in retail. How much do you actually think it costs them to run a machine that produces little plastic men? It is not as though electricity, plastic, and metal (although it was for a while) are prohibitively expensive. It is their operating costs and overhead that makes them have difficulty being profitable.

I miss the old days when you either ended up with extras of everything or you were short something, you called GW and they'd send you the bit plus some extra stuff for your trouble. The models aren't what are expensive. That model probably cost them pennies to produce. It only cost them money if you would have been willing to buy a new one later.

A free model? And you didn't call GW customer service offering to mail them back the spare?! I will be reporting you to GW high command at once, you dirty thief!

Oh, don't say that. GW's customer service is arguably one of their only remaining good qualities, and if they hear that they're losing money by not making people buy new kits for replacements then they'll axe that quicker than you can say "Marneus Calgar."
And it'll be all your fault, too.

Their customer service is great. It's the people who work in the other areas that maybe be causing the company to die sloyly. For example... how many metal dwarfs did it take for me to say "stop sending me replacements, just fix your plant please"?

I purchased a Casket of Souls for Tomb King and the caster was missing. Called GW for a replacement and they just sent a whole one. Honestly, what am I going to do with a second pile of skulls with... mmmmmmm...
Anyways, the rest of the model is useless, as the casket guards are so static, their unusable. Even if i converted a caster, i cant use more than one Casket of souls >_<
