Good Day all. I have 3 armies. One is quite large (close to 15000 points), and the others are just starting out, but with very large models (orks with a stompa and IG with a baneblade). I play weekly at my local game store, and every time I go, I tend to make at least two trips to my car with arms full of stuff. Here is my current transport system:

2 GW figure cases (Full of DAs)
1 Medium suitcase with 7 Midsized Sable Design foams, a battle force sized box with a few tanks and a large box for two LR. The foams are mostly Termys, landspeeders, and bikes.
1 Normal Sized "Bankers Box" (Also known as the "last-day-at-work") with 1 Midsized SD foam and 2 battle force sized boxes full of Orks.
1 Large Sized "Bankers Box" with IG, mostly Tanks.

Now with my current system of transport, Im ghettoizing a lot here. I normally take only my DAs and Orks along, and IG stay home, so that cuts down on the boxes, but it does not seem all that efficient.

Does anyone use the battlefoam bags? I was considering the 1520 case for everything, or just going with the smaller 432 and using the foams for the tanks.

What does the Dakka Community use to get their models from place to place? And on that note, what about large plastic armies like orks? Do you just throw them in a box?

Thank you for your time.

Get the 1520. I think it will fit your needs. My friend has the 1520, and can fit both his 1750 blood angels (with 3 baal predators, etc.) and his 1750 tau (with 3x hammerheads, 3x devilfish, etc) in it.

I've got the 432, and I love it, but you're more likely to have to get custom trays to hold a 1750-sized army in it--depends on what army you play, and what models you use.

I've been in the hobby for 17 years, and have previously used GW cases, sabol transport cases, gun cases from WalMart, etc. The battlefoam is clearly the best option.

I saw the termy foam and got really excited. to keep my guys in something that can accommodate their bases. I only wish they had more land speeder foam options. Ah well cant have it all. Its just a shame both BF and SD both wont get more stock of their cases until July.

I just use an old shoebox and stuff a bit of tissue in so bigger models don't knock togather. I only have one army case and sometimes that ain't enough, so yeah, shoebox's are the poor mans option.

If you saved your foam from the treys you've already used, do what I do... I just built a transport out of a big cardboard box, divided the whole thing into 3 sections, and used the old foam I pulled out. 2 hours later I have a place for 14" of foam treys, 4 perfectly fit spaces for war walkers and wraithlords, and slots for 3 eldar grav tanks. I loaded it up, shook it around from side to side and not a thing moved. Total cost: $3 for glue.

I just started collecting and playing IG, but was lucky to have foam laying around the house from mail deliverys. I went out to Home Depot, bought two toolboxes for $30, and lined them with foam. Pictures attached. I can carry 2k points worth of Guard, including 4 Leman Russes and 5 Chimaeras in there. Haven't assembled my Valks yet, so I'm not sure if they'll fit. It also has storage boxes on the lid that fit my paints and glue for any emergency repairs. Inside is big enough to fit the codex IG, the main rulebook, and my notebook. There is a lift-out case where I put all my guardsmen, sorted by whether they're commanders/sergeants, flashlight men, or special weapons.

The box is a bit disorganized, didn't really re-organize it after playing last night. `

Mine was still a lot cheaper, but yours looks better... Either way, a lot better than spending $14 for one piece of foam...

It could be the ugliest thing in the world, as long as it transports and stores and army efficiently and safely.

That tool box idea seems like a good idea for my IG.

I think my problem is I try to take to much, only because we play random games where I am, so I dont know who Ill go up against, and have different load outs for different enemies.

That and we like apoc games.

I may need to just take one army form now on :(

Army transport by Sabol Designs. Can get various sized cases and foam ranged from 1" thick to 4" thick and they even make double wide 4" thick foam that can hold a baneblade or 2 on one tray. Only problem is they are soft cases. Their larger cases have wheels to tote it around

Some of the big ones only cost about $40 and you get so much more for your money than from crappy GW fig cases...

I did this YEARS ago (about 1998-99 w/ 3rd edition) and have continued to use it through all of my 40k gaming. I have always played Tyranids and that is an army with a lot of large/odd shaped models & tons (literally hundreds) of smaller, odd shaped models.

http://album.warpshadow.com/v/HiveFleetNidhogar/Rockit_s+Original+Big+Red+Bug+Box+600x600.jpg.html
http://album.warpshadow.com/v/HiveFleetNidhogar/Rockit_s+BRBB+Open+600x600.jpg.html

I use the metal tool box & affix magnets to the bottoms of my model bases. For the smaller models or flat-bottomed bases I use the flexible magnetc 'tape' sheets and cut to fit. For larger (MCs) models I use very small rare-earth magnets glued into the bottom hollow of the base. I can easilly hang a plastic Carnifex or all metal Ravener model upside-down or horizontally (to the side of the box) safely this way. I also group my broods (units) together in the box and use a little striping tape or left over magnets to make divisions between them. This allows me to easilly pull a unit or put a unit back into the box without mixing the models up. I can literally deploy my reserves from my box & put models removed from play directly into the box without any fuss. That makes post-game cleanup very quick.

I find that after packing my 1850pt tournament army list in the BRBB (Big Red Bug Box) and some spare models for substitution in friendly pickup games, I still have one whole tray free to store dice, templates & some modelling supplies (bits, glue, nippers, xacto blades, measuring tapes, pencils/pens). The top section (where the lid opens) is tall enough for all of my MCs and has enough room left over for my codex, armylist, notepad, dice bag & a sandwich w/ bottled drink. Playing an army list with a lot of vehicles would probably use up this extra space but there's always a backpack or satchel for those things if your transport box is full.

I hope this helps, enjoy!

Battlefoam Pack 1520, I loaded it down with all my Marines and Guard and shipped it off to here. I'm curious what the contents will look like when it finally gets here. (Last week had a gorilla box I'd shipped show up cracked and zip tied all over to keep it shut. How do you break a gorilla box?!)

One thing I can tell you without a doubt. Avoid the Army Transport cases. They're basically really cheap, flimsy beer coolers with foam inserts. Made a mess of my guard army.

The new battlefoam cases are supposed to have solid plastic in them so they don't break a mini every time you bump your case into something. For the money, I love my Stanley toolbox...

Agreed...

But for the money I still love my cardboard box. And if zombie/nuclear/environmental apocalypse starts during a game at the shop I'll have something to start a fire with as I'm running for my life.

They can cut custom foam, y'know. If you need a tray that holds Land Speeders, just E-mail them and ask what they can do for you.

Don't I know it... Here in riverside county I keep my double case buried in the back of my truck when I'm going out to the range and I never have a problem but I can't imagine being on OC having my stuff... I think for me though a rifle case would be too short because I have tall models--even when they're taken apart.

A rifle case will accomodate whirlwinds, predators etc. It'll also take chimera's or Russ's without turrets.

For OC (I assume you mean on campus?), put on some stickers with a big sports equipment brand name.

You can also get keyboard manufacturer stickers to distract people from it being a guncase.

I used to keep my archery bow in a guncase, but I had slathered Yamaha and Roland stickers over it - only the heavier latches gave it away. I wasn't gaming at the time, but it would've kept a large chuunk of my SM reinforced company safe now that I think about it.

Think he means Orange County, one of the most anti-gun counties in so-cal.

But stickers sound good.

The more I look into the battle foam, the more I seem to talk my way out of it in favor of the two-case packpack from GW, keeping my suitcase, and guncasing my orks.

Time will tell.

I have some tackle/storage boxes that work great.

The cases have 4 rows, and tab inserts so you can set how big each individual spot is. The smallest setting is a perfect fit for standard troops (or gw paint jars). Have a termie or in my case a cannoness with wings thats obscrue? use 2-3 slots. wanna bring your brushes with you somewhere? open up a whole row.

The only problem with these cases is that they don't come with enough tabs by default! so some tab making may be necessary. I'll try to find a link.

I'm still searching for a case for my rhinos and exorcists though...

My SM are kept in a large box (tanks, one layer, with foam padding - it's a GW shipper, so I'm just reusing it) and large tackle box (which contains everything else. 4 speeders, 10 bikers, 30 terminators, 20 assault marines, 4 dreads, 60 tacticals, 20 devastators, 20 scouts and assorted HQ choices.)
My DH are kept in a single Battlehive case by CrystalCaste (the small one).
My eldar are in two GW cases (original clamshell and standard case) and another GW shipper for the tanks.
