Color me stupid, but I just realized that the blast for the deathstrike is D3+3" RADIUS not diameter.

That means that the thing could be a 12" blast, which is enormous, 2" bigger than the apocalypse blast marker. With no cover save and a strength 10 ap 1 hit to everything under it, that is actually pretty appealing to me now. I think I will make one and use it just to see if it is worth a damn. That thing could be game changing. Still not tournament worthy on paper as I see it now, but a hell of a lot of fun to model and to use in pick up games.

Now I just need to build more LOS blocking terrain!

I didn't know that it was a radius either. I could definately see some great scenarios where one side would have to wipe out the Deathstrikes before they are launched. Maybe a battery of 5 or so and the other side gets to make one of his units deep strike or Scout.

Right. but by the time it goes off, your opponent is in your lines, or all spread out, or the death strike is dead. Sure if you roll a 6 on turn one it could be a game winner, but that only happens 17% of the time.

It's really fluffy ; How cool is a scenario where Imperial Guard have 3 Deathstrikes and you have to stop them. It's going to be a pretty awesome PlanetStrike weapon.

I'd love to see a list that revolves around it.

If I lose it is because I had bad luck, if you win it is because you cheated.

I understand if foil misunderstood me. I was thinking of a scenario in an Apok game, or just a fun game. Even a rehash of Kill-team.

Your forces have discovered that the Imperium has moved WMDs on your territory and you need to elimnate them before the missiles are ready to launch. Maybe say that you have till Turn 5+ (or until they have launched) to destroy them all or it is a loss for the attacker. Planetstrike is coming out soon so that could be a scenario idea for a campaign.

OK captain sunshine, way to rain on my parade!

J/K, you are correct, but oh the glory when you fire it on turn 2 (It can not fire on turn 1!).

England.

Every time I look at the unit I think 'Made of win' and then I realise that any player worth his salt should have destroyed the tank before it launches. It would be epic to have a battery of them in Apoc.
Actualy I have just realised a way to use it. Keep it in reserve to keep it hidden from fire then trundle on and you have a good chance of launching it. Unless the missile strike is done on how long the unit i on the table for.
This has probally already been thought of but ohhh well

If it was a mission where units came in via reserves, and you had 2 Officers of the Fleet you could maybe delay most of your opponent's forces long enough that rolling to fire the missile might be feasible. In the meantime, keep them boxed in the corner protected by other vehicles and camo netting.

Yeah, it goes by turns on the table.

What you do is put it in a corner like a bassie, put two Russes in front of it and it will be out of LOS to nearly anything on board.

It should fire turn 3 or 4, and when it does, peace out, it wrecks anything it hits.

It is mostly for fun. I am going to make one just to try out, and hell, we play lots of Apoc here, so it can always be used for that.

'D3+3" blast' So blast not radius I'm afraid. It's the whole blast.

Where does it specify radius? All it says is 'blast'. GW blast markers come in three varieties, 3", 5", 10", all of which are measured in diameter. I cant find anywhere that says anything about radius. Sorry the deathstrike still sucks just as much.

If we were to play each other in a tournament, not only would I table you, I would murder you, your family, every woman you ever loved and burn down your house. I mean, what's the point in winning if you allow people that don't take the game seriously to live?

p55. "The Weapon has a variable blast RADIUS...mark the impact point with a counter and roll to determine the blast RADIUS"...

It seems pretty clear from the Codex. It would be great for a fun game. Heck using 5 hiding behind a titan during Apoc would be fun too.

OH yeah, in Apoc, or an objective game... All kinds of fun. I just scattered off 5 inches, but you are still all kinds of fethed.

Yeah, you see, it is the radius, which makes the unit SO much more appealing.

Park one in covver behind a building until it's ready to fire, at the very least it will distract the enemy and cause them to disrupt their own deployment.

And all you need is a separate turret - make a variety of heavy support turrets for the chimera hull and you'll have something useful for any new game.

There was a guy who took a deathstrike to the tourny I played in yesterday. i didnt really see much of his games but from what I heard he got it off against a sallie played and it killed like half of his army.

If you can keep it un-shot its got a 1/3 chance of firing on turn 2 and you can buy more then one...

Beware people with large hills in their back field, or big ruins/buildings, between a 3+ cover save from camo netting and some decent LOS blocking terrain someone one might rain (burnination) on your parade...

A Deathstrike Missile Luancher? Seriously?
Talk about OVERkill!

With the new codex we're getting cases of new kids coming to the club having 500 or 1000 point battles with a couple of guardsmen, an Lt. and a deathstrike missile. They think they're untouchable with that thing then BOOM it's gone!

Save it for Apocalypse, please.

The idea of the Deathstrike Missile launcher is appealing. Have GW made a model for it, or is it going to come out with all the other tanks in time for PlanetStrike?

We have a rule. If you use a deathstrike, it uses apoptalyptic barrage, but must be fired by another player on a different board in the gamestore. And you must guess the range^^

Amusingly, I notice that the missile can be fired directly. It would lose pinning and the hitting on side armor for barrage (if I am thinking correctly about that rule) but you would get -3 to scatter.

It's kind of funny to imagine a tank rolling around a corner to see an ICBM poining directly at him. "I peed a little" comes to mind :-P

Camo-netted Deathstrike, two-three Chimera/russes to proivde it with cover. 450-600pts?

Use as a stationary firebase. Good pew. If you manage to fire the deathstrike off, so much pew!

The question is if you have inq and mystics next to the deathstrike, starting on turn 2 could you start rolling to see if it fires for every unit that deepstrikes?

It is a nice unit for apocalypse, but I don't see it being so problematic even for smaller scaled games. Its pretty easy to destroy on the chimera chassis with long ranged fire power. One game against wolf scouts, or snikkrot would be the end of fielding it all the time in small games.

that being said putting the deathstrike with their buts to the board edge flanked by a guard squad or two really slows down snikrot and wolf scouts that now come in on turn 2 on a six.
