It's kind of funny to imagine a tank rolling around a corner to see an ICBM poining directly at him. "I peed a little" comes to mind :-P

Sorry but it states that it cannot fire directly.

Actually i've got 2 made so far. Played one Apoc game with one, and all it did was Stun/Shake a Falcon I plan on taking 3 in a 1500+ games just for the heck of it! They DO manke good distractions, and leave other things free. Always give them camo netting (you shouldn't be moving it anyway).

Oh, I must have missed that.

Right... because it is in the fuzzy part of my PDF that is REALLY hard to read. I need to start bringing my codexes to work

Its pretty easy to destroy on the chimera chassis with long ranged fire power. One game against wolf scouts, or snikkrot would be the end of fielding it all the time in small games.

that being said putting the deathstrike with their buts to the board edge flanked by a guard squad or two really slows down snikrot and wolf scouts that now come in on turn 2 on a six.

Ahh, but see, now the army has become a turtle centered around protecting their missile(s). If there are any objectives or movement based points to be had, they are weakening the armies ability to adjust to anything that happens up front as they move to protect themselves. The Death strike is certainly fun, don't get me wrong, but in small games will be difficult to protect and still accomplish your goals. It has weaknesses and is not so powerful that it needs to be kept out of normal games.

I find it somewhat fun that those outflankers in discussion would need a 6 to come in on turn 2 - the same roll one would need to shoot the rocket....

And as an aside, if someone is putting that thing on the board, I will focus any lascannon I have at it and its brothers. Whether that is TLLC's from razorbacks or TLLC's from vendettas. That would be my target priority #1. It really wouldnt take too many shots to pop it relatively low armor.

I'm of the opinion the Deathstrike is in there to be fun. It makes for a crazy game before (hopefuly) something gets nuked. I don't think it was ever really ment as a 'compeditive' choice.

I think that about covers it. For now.

whidbey

it fire on a 5+ on turn 2 if it hasn't taken any damage

because you get a plus one for every turn it was on the board.

I agree !
But the problem is that most of the new little kids can't resist something with a BOOM that big! Thats OK I guess, but they'll never win any battles if they centre their small armies around that thing (which can be discouraging).

I agree that it looks like a lot of fun to play with. 2 or 3 of em, now you're cooking with fire! Bury it in cover, and hope you can get it to shoot on turn 2. Personally, I would jam it in one of the corners of my table edge, with 2 Chimeras or some sentinels providing cover along with a conscript squad. With enough 'layers' of men and steel, you can prevent your opponent from physically getting within meltagun range, and the chimeras positioned right will make it hard to even draw LOS on it.

Another thing I think it will do is encourage some opponents to spread out their units to minimize damage. This might give you an advantage by making some units easier to hit (out of cover) or out of position to hit your own guys. They're also going to try to kill it ASAP, obviously, but that's what is so nice about Officer of the Fleet. With 2 command squads, you could stall them long enough to fire.

Whenever they release a model for it, my Orks are gonna Loot a couple for APOC games.

That is so Ironic becuase, according to the IG codex that is exactly what happened once. When the orks fired it killed a whole Leman Russ platoon and about 100orkies

Something like

CCS @ 50
Primaris Pysker @ 70

Infantry Platoon @730
- PCS with Commander Chenkov @ 80
- Infantry Squad @50
- Infantry Squad @50
-Conscripts [50] @275

Infantry Platoon @680
- PCS @30
- Infantry Squad @50
- Infantry Squad @50
-Conscripts [50] @275
-Conscripts [50] @275

Hellhound Squadron @465
- 3 hellhounds all with heavy flamer, dozer blade and extra armour

Deathstrike Missle Launcher @ 225
- heavy flamer, heavy stubber, hunter-killer, extra armour, camo netting

Thats 2220 pts. Which gives you 280 pts of whatever fill out you want to use if you want to play 2500 pts. I would proabably put in a bunch of las-cannons .

My general stragey would be using the conscipts as reusable meatshields under send in the next wave and use my hell hounds and the 2 pcs and ccs geared up for melee to take care of any deep stiking units.
