Heyas..

Getting ready to start painting my Pure Sisters of Battle force.. and am hung up on how to base them.

I have done 4 armies so far this year, and each has a unique basing style that I do NOT want to repeat on the gals.

(all paint names are GW paints)

Omega Marines - Rim of base is Bestial Brown, with green dense flock on top

Craftworld H'rshei - Goblin Green on base rim, green/white sand mixture on top

Hive Fleet Orkin - Scorched Brown all over base, buff gravel with Sepia Wash on top

Waaagh Magshak - Snakebite Leather all over base, with splotches of red sand on top.

Now, moving to the Sisters.. my test model and color scheme are done, and pretty solid on that scheme.

The base, right now, is done in Shadow Gray.. I think leaving that on the sides might work, maybe a City Ruins scheme on top woul be nice..

However, my main goal is for it to be SIMPLE. Most of the other armies have a basic glue-and-done aspect, except for the Nids.. and I want to keep it basic. I don't want to have to paint elements on the bases.

This leads me to think that getting Woodland Scenics basing material would work, best.. but I don't know if gravel, flock, turf etc would be best.

SO, not repeating any of the colors I already used, nor materials I have already used.. I am open to suggestions!

Couple limitations.. No Food (Daughter already suggested candy Nerds, wife suggested Pepper).. and needs to be something available in the US at non-GW hobby stores, hardware stores, or craft stores.

Why not chop up some sprues and use those, seeing as you were thinking about making it a city scheme.

thought about it... not sure how to do it though. I saw somewhere on here a chap used a meat grinder to render sprues into chunks..

However, the big issue against it is I would need to paint it. The gray of the sprues would look tacky used as-is. I want to avoid mutli-steps on these bases.

I just read those.. I like the idea of making my own basic mixture.. but don't really want to spend a bunch ($10-15) of money on what is a small model count force.

I think that is what 3 different bags of railroad ballast/sand would cost me (could be wrong).

The more I think about it though..

Has ANYONE based with pepper (basic grey/black/white) .. the kind you put on food..

would that stay decent after clearcoating?
