So basically I played 40K years ago (Necrons had just come out). I played DA and Tau but I am retiring my Dark Angels and starting a Death Guard force mainly because they look soooo cool. This is my 1000 point list and criticism is welcome as I haven't played the newest edition rules yet. Things to keep in mind: I want to stick to Nurgle and base Chaos units only. I like a good theme. I don't want to use Lash spam. I don't want to use Obliterators. Thanks for any input

HQ
Deamon Prince, close combat weapon, wings, mark of nurgle, wind of chaos (may substitute the nurgle power for hoard opponents)
Points: 180

Elites
Chaos Chosen Squad
5 Chosen Marines
2 Meltgun, 1 Flamer, 1 Plasma Gun
Points: 131

Troops
Plague Marines
1 Aspiring Champion with power fist
6 Plague Marines, 2 meltguns
1 Rhino
Points: 256

Plague Marines
1 Aspiring Champion with power fist
6 plague marines, 2 plasma guns
1 Rhino
Points: 266

Heavy Support
1 Preditor Tank
Twin linked lascannon, 2 lascannons,
Points: 165

Total: 998 Points

So basically this army is going to be most effective at around 12" and closer. I want to keep a real Nurgle feel of close range fire fights and have a preditor for any range and tank cracking. My main concern is a low model count. So anyway, thanks for any comments!

The Eye of Terror

You could probably drop the extra armor on that pred, with so many points sunk into the armament even a shaken result would be disastrous. Chosen can take more weapons, might I suggest a plasma gun and a flamer, or two more meltaguns? If you drop both the extra armor and the aspiring champ you can afford it.

If it were me I would give each squad one plasma and one melta, but at 1k points you probably run them pretty close together, and the enemy probably isn't going to throw a whole lot of diverse threats at you.

All in all, i approve

Thanks. The extra armor really isn't that worth it. I figured it might get me out of some fire if cover is near but really the pred will prob be in cover anyway. Dropping the aspiring champ on the chosen is a good idea. I'll probably tinker with their weapons. 4 special weapons could be really sick. The only reason I had the plasma all in one and the melta all in one as it gives the melta squad a little more space to fire the bolt pistols/melta and then assault if needed. The plasma gun would be wasted in that case. Still, it is something I'll have to battle test.

Overall, thanks for the input!

For 1000pts it looks good. I'd try and avoid mixing specials within squads because they end up not performing as well in either field rather than performing very will in one. Its not really worth the trade off. The same applies to your chosen. Their mix of weaponry doesnt really manke them very good at anything. Try and choose a role for them and then equip them for that role, they will perform much better. Your a little low on anti-horde so giving them four of them flamers and a rhino and changing WoC on your DP to nurgles rot would probablt help a lot.

Good little list

Polonius wrote:Well, seeing as I literally will die if I ever lose a game of 40k, I find your approach almost heretical. If we were to play each other in a tournament, not only would I table you, I would murder you, your family, every woman you ever loved and burn down your house. I mean, what's the point in winning if you allow people that don't take the game seriously to live?

Interesting. I don't really know what I'll equip the chosen with then. The 4 flamers could be real cool. I'll have to tinker with this for a bit. Thanks for the input tho!

North of you!

I really believe you should swap out wind of chaos for warptime; it is probably the best power for a daemon prince (not of slaanesh) available and makes the daemon prince even more destructive in close combat; with that he should be able to take down almost all threats at 1000 points level, plus its 5 points cheaper than wind.
