Subject: Ard Boyz Raider Spam List

Elite Tyranid Warrior

This is my first draft of my Ard Boyz list. It's extremely straightforward, but should be pretty potent, especially against armies with low AT. I have about 90 points left to play with as-is. I am not sure if it is worthwhile to put a second power on the Tzeentch Princes, since they can only use one a turn anyway. In fact, I'm not sure if Nurgle would be better or not. I could run lash princes, but without any template death at all, it just doesn't seem particularly useful. HQ Daemon Prince 175 - Mark of Tzeentch - Wings - Warptime Daemon Prince 175 - Mark of Tzeentch - Wings - Warptime Greater Daemon 100 Elites Terminators 250 - MoK - 3x LC - 2x CF - 2x Combi-melta Dedicated Land Raider 240 - Daemonic Possession Troops 10x Berzerkers 250 - AC/PF 10x Berzerkers 250 - AC/PF 10x Berzerkers 250 - AC/PF Heavy Support Land Raider 240 - Daemonic Possession Land Raider 240 - Daemonic Possession Land Raider 240 - Daemonic Possession TOTAL: 2410

Lash Princes aren't just for templates. 2 Lash Princes in this list = first turn assault. That's assuming you don't blow your Psychic test (8.3% chance, but it still happens) and the enemy leaves anything Lash-able within your effective 36" Lash range (though once you've Lashed one thing, it should easily be in range of the other). Are you planning on just letting your Raiders hang back? Otherwise you won't be able to control much, though what you do control will be pretty secure.

Lash just isnt as usefull anymore with most of the armies these days being mechanized.

I understand your point, Cannerus, and I am well aware of that fact. But Khornatedemon is right. Especially in the local metagame, Lash just doesn't do me much good until I have popped a few transports anyways, and by then, I can get the charge without it.
The biggest concern I have here is control, as you pointed out. The way things stand, I don't have many models on the board. One thing I am considering is reducing the size of the Terminators and splitting them into two smaller squads, and giving them two raiders, with one more in an HS slot. This way, I lose a raider, but I can split enemy fire better with rhinos for the left over Berzerkers, and probably cram a squad of Chosen, Havocs, or Noise Marines in there to get a little more firepower.
Splitting the terminators would give me some interesting options, like giving one group of three all LC and a mark of slaanesh for some CC infantry death, and giving the others the MoK with chainfists.

I wasn't trying to imply lash was better, just mentioning more utility with it. I think DPs need Warp Time to be as effective as they should anyway. If you do make a squad of three with Chainfists, remember you can champ as many as you want for 10 points and gain the +1 attack. So if you wanted two with +1 attack and chainfists and one with heavy flamer, you'd save 10 points over MoK and still get the extra attacks where they really count (plus bonus chance for Greater Daemon summoning if the spot is really, really that worth it).

In fact, here are a couple alternate ideas. HQ Daemon Prince 175 - Mark of Tzeentch - Wings - Warptime Daemon Prince 175 - Mark of Tzeentch - Wings - Warptime Greater Daemon 100 Elites 3x Terminators 180 - MoK - 3x CF - 3x Combi-melta Dedicated Land Raider 240 - Daemonic Possession 3x Terminators 135 - MoS - 3x LC Dedicated Land Raider 240 - Daemonic Possession Troops 10x Berzerkers 250 - AC/PF (In Land Raider) 10x Berzerkers 250 - AC/PF - Rhino 10x Berzerkers 250 - AC/PF - Rhino 6x Noise Marines 200 - Champ w/PW, DS - Rhino Heavy Support Land Raider 240 - Daemonic Possession TOTAL: 2505 This leaves me at 5 points over priced. I could replace the NMs with some of the following, as well: 7x Havocs 195 - MoS - Flamers - AC, no upgrades (for the GD) - Rhino This one would do better against hordes/non MEQs, while still retaining a nice bit of punch in CC. 6x Chosen 193 - 5 meltas - AC This setup has served me well in the past for mobile AT, especially with a good outflank, or even just leaving the rhino empty in my deployment to Infiltrate the Chosen. There are plenty of other options as well, such as dropping on zerk from each squad, along with the NM/Havocs/Chosen to get a fourth unit of 9 more zerks in a rhino. Considering the cost of the average AC in this list, the Greater Daemon might be able to go, though I have found that at 100 points, even when killing a model to come out, they are pretty worth it. That is another advantage for the Havocs or Chosen. EDIT: Cannerus' second post raised a good point. The extra attacks on terminator champions would be nice, and losing one would actually be cheaper than losing a Berzerker champ, if only by one point if outfitted with a chainfist/combi or HF.

i think your OG list is stronger. im a sucker for the tzeentch DP as well, though i dont use them personally i recommend them to my chaos friends. i definatly think fitting the GD somewhere is a good option as well.

If you are going for an intensely tough DP, why not run mark of nurgle, wings warptime princes? But I suppose mark of tzeench has its advantages as well.
I feel like if you are going for LR spam, then whatever is in a rhino will get targeted and obliterated first. I feel like you are better off having as much as possible in LR.

I actually agree with you there, Extrenm. I prefer the 4 raiders myself, but the alternate lists do provide alot more targets to worry about - 3 raiders and 3 rhinos.
I will probably keep the 4 raiders, but reduce the squad size of the terminators, and give them either all CF/CM or LC.
I wasn't sure whether Nurgle DPs or Tzeentch ones would be more survivable, but I guess probably the Nurgle, thanks to a better resistance to massed small arms fire/low str attacks in CC. The nice thing is, they both cost the same as-is. My biggest concern here is the overwhelming volume of plasma/melta/etc fire that usually gets directed at these big nasty gribblies, which hit just as well regardless of toughness, and take away my better armor save as well.
Here is a new alternate list, even spammier.
HQ
Daemon Prince 175
- Mark of Nurgle
- Wings
- Warptime
Daemon Prince 175
- Mark of Nurgle
- Wings
- Warptime
Greater Daemon 100
Elites
3x Terminators 135
- 3x CF
Dedicated Land Raider 220
3x Terminators 135
- 3x CF
Dedicated Land Raider 220
Troops
9x Berzerkers 229
- AC/PF
9x Berzerkers 229
- AC/PF
9x Berzerkers 229
- AC/PF
Heavy Support
Land Raider 220
Land Raider 220
Land Raider 220
TOTAL: 2507
This leaves me 7 points over, but adds another Land Raider into the mix. The loss of Daemonic Possession is tough, but with another raider, their fire will be split enough that I will need it less. The Terminators can be used to take out enemy vehicles, as there are few things with an AV that can stand up to 9 CF attacks.
