While searching for stuff for some of my upcoming ghetto Iraqi Mordheim terrain, I have come across a full new can of Rustoleum Camo Ultra Flat Black.

I understand that this stuff is being used more and more by people here around here, and that it has a little more "tooth" to it to help with paint adherence.

But how much exactly does it compare with GW standard black? It is formulated to go well over plastic, so I am not worried about it turning the plastic model into a Spawn or anything. And I use good primer techniques.

In the morning (night here, 1115) I will prime a spare Neophyte (metal) and a random Empire militiaman, and post pics for the curious. I was just questioning after if anyone else has used it, it seems that most people, via my search foo, use Krylon or the cheap Walmart stuff.

Anyway, thanks for any reviews and look out for those pics (if your interested!)

I've had very good results with the Rustoleum line of camo paints. The Olive Drab works very well over black for Imperial Guard.

Ive used it, in black, grey, greens, tan and a shade or two of brown. Sticks to plastic and metal really well, and if properly shaken and sprayed goes on smooth.

Its affordable too, and nice when you want a base color other than black ^_^

Hey all!

Mission requirements didn't have me prime the models till my night. But here are some simple side by side shots of the Citidel v Rustoleum.

The Dwarves were painted yesterday with the last of my Citidel spray. The Scout and Empire flunky with the rustoleum.

Overall I am really happy with the rustoleum and how it came out onto the models. It gives a nice, thin, and (its still like 90 with the sun down here) quick drying coat over the minis. I miss-aimed one of my shots across the militaman and thought that I might have gunked him, but as the primer dried, there was no obscured details or anything.

The Rustoleum dries to a slight shine I noticed, even though it says ultra flat, but that is not an issue. I bet as the minis sit overnight and fully harden they will be just fine. The results were comparable over both plastic and metal, and I am really happy over all.

Anyway, for the curious, cause I know that there has been some discussion about the stuff. Hope it helps anyone out there looking for alternative primers!

Try holding the can back a little farther to prevent the shine. Ive noticed most flat paints need about a 12" minimum spray distance, get too close and they get a more satin sort of finish.

Or if you just had a manicure, it keeps the spray from spattering all over the figs when its ricocheting off your fingernail that sticks over the nozzle

Anyone tried the ACE Hardware store-brand primers? They have one that appears to be a pretty close match to the Foundation grey, but I'm always leery of trying new primers, especially in the under $4.00 range.

I use Wal Mart brand flat black. $0.96 a can. Works great!
