Some of you may know the next scenario for the Lucky 13's contest has been posted.

http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m70203a_Lucky13sChapter2Scenario.pdf

I'll be running a fluffy Guard army as the defenders, I know my primary opponent will be bringing Chaos Marines. Other forces might show up for both sides, but I'm running with what data I have. This will be my first Apoc game so I'm seeking a little assistance.

We have limited our forces to one superheavy. I'm bringing a Baneblade, he has a Shadowsword. But that is not the real question...

If you look at the scenario, I'm most concerned with the bunker in the middle of the 2' by 3' minefield. I plan on defending this bunker with 3 Veteran squads all armed with lascannons and 3 sniper rifles each, along with them will be a CCS armed with a lascannon and sniper rifle. I know not a normal match, but fluffy for the army. I plan on putting one of the veteran squads in the bunker, the placement of theother 2 squads and CCS will be dependant upon the Strategic asset that is taken.

1) Obstacles: With obstacles I would place a 36" line just in front of the HQ bunker inside the minefield. With the CCS in the middle and a veteran squad on each side. The CCS gives orders to the two line squads. The other 36" of terrain would be razor wire placed along the back edge of the table behind the bunker to disuade flank marchers from coming in the backdoor for a quick grab at the HQ bunker.

2) Bunkers: Much the same as above, however I lose the ability to give orders this way. You can't give orders to units in vehicles, so...

3) Disruptor Beacon: Having a bubble that disuaded deepstrikers from landing on or near the HQ bunker could be handy. We all know how guard does is HTH. Termies or Havoks would easily mop up a couple of guard units. I do have Commisar Yarrick in my force who I could move into the HQ bunker, he is currently in a chimera with a full squad of Ogryns.

4) Null Field Generator: I have no anti-psycher stuff in my force. I don't own either the DH or WH books so I can't take an Inquisitor.
The thought of being lashed into the minefield is not really appealing. His psychers will be the primary targets...probably more than the Shadowsword.

5) Other: I'm open to suggestions.

The rest of my force?

Yarrick
Ogryns 5(Chimera)
Ratlings 3
Stormtroopers (2 plasma, DStriking)
CCS with LC, Reg Standard, vox
2 Vet squads with HB and 3 GL's, vox
Bastonne Vet squad, 3 Melta, Demolitions, Chimera
Pask in a LRBT
2 LRBT
LR Exterminator
Baneblade

The rough plan is to hold the HQ bunker with the 3 vet squads and CCS either positioned inside the minefield, or just on the edges.
Move the 2nd CCS with the two Vet Squads and 2 LRBT up to the neutral zone objective I place. Bastonne, the ogryns, Pask and Exterminator tanks will try for the Neutral zone Objective my opponent places. The Stormtroopers will either contest my opponets objective, or drop in to reinforce where needed. Yeah I know my sniper rifles are not going to be at peak effectiveness against an army that is mostly fearless. but Like I said, it's fluffy, based roughly upon the 95th Rifles.

So which Strategic Asset should I take?

CHQ is a huge building and Vital Objective.

The biggest problem is that it is only 18" away from the enemy deployment zone, and your choice of razorwire is a good one.

If you can get a friend to bring 2x 36" of Tank Traps, that would be good to shut down any Trukks or Rhinos.

And adding extra Minefields never hurts... We did this against 'nids, and it was evil.

My lucky 13's game ended in a draw, we had a DA player with azrael and he picked the legion relic, he was able to sit on the objective and keep it clear... untill the ork player flank marched 3000 points worth of boys, nobs, and warbosses right on top of him.

We ended up contesting the objective anyways, but i highly recommend disruptor beacons. Deep striking and flank marching will hurt a lot. the minefield will not save you vs horde.

THE HORUS HERESY: Emprah: Hours, go reconquer the galaxy so there can be a new golden age. Horus: But I should be Emprah, bawwwwww! Emprah: Magnus, stop it with the sorcery. Magnus: But I know what's best, bawwwwww! Emprah: Horus, tell Russ to bring Magnus to me because I said so. Horus: Emprah wants you to kill Magnus because he said so. Russ: Fine. Emprah's always right. Plus Ole Red has already been denounced as a traitor and I never liked him anyway. Russ: You're about to die, cyclops! Magnus: O noes! Tzeentch, I choose you! Bawwwww! Russ: Ah well. Now to go kill Horus. Russ: Rowboat, how have you not been doing anything? Guilliman: . . . I've been writing a book. Russ: Sigh. Let's go. Guilliman: And I fought the Word Bearers! Horus: Oh shi--Spess Puppies a'comin? Abbadon: And the Ultramarines, sir. Horus: Who? Anyway, this looks bad. *enter Sanguinis* What are you doing here? Come to join me? Sanguinius: *throws self on Horus's power claws* Alas, I am undone! When you play Castlevania, remember me! *enter Emprah* Emprah: Horus! So my favorite son killed my favorite daughter! Horus: What about the Lion? Emprah: Never liked her. Horus: No one does. Now prepare to die! *mortally wounds Emprah*Emprah: Au contraire, you dick. *kills Horus* Dorn: Okay, now I just plug this into this and . . . okay, it works! Emprah? Hellooooo? Jonson: I did nothing! Guilliman: I did more nothing that you! Jonson: Nuh-uh. I was the most worthless! Guilliman: Have you read my book? Dorn: No one likes that book. Khan: C'mon guys. It's not that bad. Dorn: I guess not. Russ: You all suck. Ima go bring the Emprah back to life.

Beacon is an obvious starter, and Minefields won't ever save you, but they do one hell of a job thinning the herd and make the defender's life a *lot* easier.
