My challenge to you: Make a non-apoc unit more expensive (and more effective if you can manage it)
And yes, I could have heaped more points onto this, but I decided to make it SOMEWHAT points-effective.

10man Jetseer council (All usefull upgrades) +10x Spirit seers +10x Singing spears +10x Jetbikes +2x Conceal (Redundancy, for this & the next two) +2x Enhance +2x Embolden +4x Destructor. 650pts Ahh, that looses to your 749pt battlesuit retinue. Close, though. Edit: Before somone else gets this; 3x Leman russ executioners with all the trimmings. Comes to 930pts Oor a fully kitted out 50man combined infantry sqaud blob (One killpoint by choice, one FOC) comes to 810. Makes a relatively, if a bit too multi-taskable, effective unit...

Well, they lose some points because of the lack of a character, but here's an attempt.
Nob Bikers (I know, right?) built for points - not wound allocation.
9 Bikers
1 Painboy
-Stikkbombz
-9 Power Klaws
-9 Rokkit kombi-weapons
-9 'eavy armour
-9 Bosspoles
-9 Waagh! Banners
-9 Ammo Runts
-1 Grot Orderly
-10 Cybork Bodies
1017 points. Also, that's a heck of a lot of Power Klaw attacks.

Okay, the retinue for an independent character would pretty obviously be 1 KP total.
A Hive Tyrant with Tyrant Guard is 1 KP.
A Broodlord with genestealer retinue is 1 KP.
The example in the OP post is 1 KP.
When it says SPECIFICALLY in the codex that they can be accompanied by X amount of models, they are not JOINING that unit, they are being added onto that model in addition, so it's all 1 KP.

Calgar with Terminator Armour - 265
With three honour guard squads which count as the same HQ choice as him
360 points for ten models (115 base + 35 for each model up to seven aditional ones)
+25 to give one the Chapter Banner
Replacing Champion's Power Sword with a Thunder Hammer and giving him Digital Lasers(Digital Weapons) +25
Everyone gets an Auxiliary Grenade Launcher (+15 each) +150
Honour Guard Squad 1 = 560
Honour Guard Squad 2
Everyone gets Auxiliary Grenade Launchers and Relic Blades +300
Champion gets the same upgrades as the first + 25
=685
Honour Guard Squad 3 is the same as 2 =685
Single HQ choice = 2195 points, 31 models with 2+ saves
They can also take three Rhinos, Razorbacks or Drop Pods.

Except some CHARACTERS lose their CHARACTER status when they take a retinue.
A Chapter Master with an honor guard it 2 KPs, because the chapter master is still an IC.
A Hive Tyrand/Broodlord/Crisis Commander, is 1KP, because the Tyrant, Broodlord, and Crisis Commander are no longer ICs.

I dont think this is true. How does he go back into being an IC? When he takes a retinue it becomes one unit. He is like a sargeant at that point. The unit isn't dead until they are all dead, and they count as one kp.
