This is the beginning of my Tyranid army. I still need to clean up the models a bit and add highlighting and paint eyes.

Still thinking of adding another color (perhaps to the tongues and the joint muscles) but I'm not sure what to use yet.

I decided to go with Tyranids after finishing a unit of Macragge marines and deciding that after years of playing but not painting that i wanted a change of pace.

and an objective marker I'm working on.

This is also my first time taking pictures of my models so sorry if they are blurry or tinted and not clear enough.

I like it, it has a very cartoony cell shaded look to it.

Thats probably because of the washes, it wasn't my intended look, and it appears a little less so in person.

The flesh actually has shading from a sepia wash I've just had trouble picking it up in pictures.

Thanks, my first time doing anything but drybrushing (my first macragge marines).

Great looking models, the colors are smooth and very eye-catching! And you did a great job on the plastic Lictor.
Just a suggestion though, something seems off on the carapace of the Lictor, I think it just needs some minor highlighting around the edges.
Other than that, it looks great!

Yeah its the wash, i need to reapply scorpion green again on a couple of areas and rewash it. Although I'm still thinking of highlighting/ drybrushing the edges.

Looks good. Though personally I'd douse all the orange areas in badab black (though to be fair I douse everything in badab black).

All of the flesh is actually more brownish with a gryphonne sepia wash i just need to learn to take better pictures. (its vomit brown with a sepia wash)

As for the name of the hive fleet its from a group of Hindu serpent deities.

I wanted to base my army off of snakes (and not sea creatures), the scheme in general was originally a take off of the emerald tree boa.

He is my attempt at a plastic lictor.

I didn't want to pay the outrageous price for the metal model and i hate having to deal with them a pin them.

i really like the colour sceme but i think you should rethink the bases to make the minis pop a bit more. very well done though

I like the combo, however i feel there need to another colour added to the palette somewhere and maybe some shading done in recesses or something.

Still very clean and great looking hive fleet

Nice tyranids you got there - orange and green go well with each other, but i agree with SquigHerder - another 3rd colour would make the model alot better (imo)

I'm not sold on the colour scheme. Green and orange are painful to look at. Purple might be a better substitute for orange IMO.

Dip those models and they will be beautiful.

P.s. Someone made a comment on the bases. I think you should go snow. Talk about popping.

Yes. Go snow.
As for the third color, try a pink or purple, or pinky purple. Color wheels are genius!

Hmm i like it the way it is , its very adapted to the surrounding ( its base )

Why does every base need snow? it already has grass and pebbles ?

Thanks for all of the comments.

Yeah i really need a third color, i might try something with purple.

I like how the bases match the model, although I am tempted to add more foliage.

And concerning shading i did use a wash although I might go back and apply more.

So any other opinions on a third color?

Ok heres my 2 cents for you:
-On the carapace, i think you should have a highlight on the edge running away from the head, or darken it, as a solid colour doesnt seem to suit to me.
-A wash of barad black[Spelling?] over the skin to darken it up, darken recesses.
-On the scything talons and hoofs, maybe apply 2 tones of bleech or apply a wash or delvin mud.
-As for another colour, my pick would be one of these: warlock purple, hawk turquose[spelling?] (this colour suits the bright colours used maybe if you mix it abit with the skin colour[?]), beastal brown or other[cant think of anymoe].

Hope that helps

Wow thats a bright scheme. Something different, i like it. But you need another color in it cause a whole army of these and i would call the Hive Fleet Pumpkin Pie.

It's not quite as orange as it looks, its a little more brown and there is a more shading than the picture suggests on the flesh (i used a wash of gryphonne sepia, over vomit brown). Perhaps i should apply is heavier in certain areas.
I do plan to add some highlights to the carapace.

I like the idea of a wash on the hoofs/talons i'll either go with devlan mud or ogryn flesh on it.

I'm thinking of a purple or tentacle pink with the purple wash for a third color.

But yeah overall i wanted a bright vibrant color and thanks for all of the suggestions/comments thus far.

Oh and i'll try to work at my picture taking skills.

Gryphone sepia is good over metals and for glazing, but I've found it's pretty bad at shading. I'd try devlin mud, you'll keep the warm brown tones but it will actually shade enough to spot it at a distance.

Any other thoughts on a third color, that's what I've had the most trouble deciding so far. I would appreciate any other ideas before i go ahead and try something.

Hmm... I know it may be hard to do, but I wonder if your third color could be a purple wash over the green. As long as it is done neatly and doesn't cause the green to disappear - i.e. shade it in the crevices, it could work.

Well i was thinking of doing a third color for the tongues and muscles to add a little diversity of color to the model. But over all it seems people think something with purple would look best, so i'll look into combinations of it.
