Hi guys - really unsure as to which forum I should post this in as it's semi-fluff, semi-list so, I thought I would post in here.

I am considering making my main marine army (SW other one) a red scorpion list. I like the fluff and the armour pattern + it will force me to learn to paint black PA correctly.

In the history/fluff, it says that they adhere to the Codex Astartes rigidly... How would this effect an army list? I am possibly thinking of having a unit of deathwatch (Sternguard) , a Xenox Inq and an assassin. I don't really care about mega competitiveness but would like it to fare reasonably well.

So, any ideas for what to include? All infantry tact squads or what? Is there anything I should avoid?

Or, as it's codex, should I just follow an ultramarine type pattern?

cheers

If you just use the space marine codex, you'll be "following the Codex" so to speak. Maybe avoid the non-Ultramarine type special characters, but I don't think that's even a big deal.

probably avoid Spec Coms all together unless you can meld them into your list. If they adhere strictly then it's basically tac squads, assault, scout, termies and devastators and that's pretty much it, bye bye INQ and Assassin (unless they're on some special mission where these are required).

Many started armies including: / , , ....and Bretonnia

He could still use the inquisitor, and the assasin, Colonel. Daemon hunters can mix with other armies

Imperial Fist- 4,500 pts
Cadian- 2,000 pts
Daemonhunters- 1,500 pts
Iron Warriors- 2,000 pts
Pre Heresy Luna Wolves- 5,000 pts

He could always play the "Inquisition ordered so" card for fitting pretty much anything in his fluff, however it is kind off "bleh"

Waaagh!

It's my understanding that the Codex Space Marines is representative of every unit that the Codex Astartes allows space marines to use. To say that Predators and Land Raiders are not allowed by the CA is kind of silly...
