I don't wonder why. They are stupid (being 15 and all) and their hormones are pushing them to want to do it. You know, it.

Withdrawal does reduce the chance of conception, but not as much as using a condom.

I suppose it is probably a good method to use in conjunction with the rhythm method if you are a Roman Catholic. Otherwise, I don't really see the point.

If you don't like condoms, use the pill, Dutch cap or coil.

If you are afraid of STDs, use condoms.

Bloody hell. I remember being specifically told in Biology class that 'pulling out' was highly unreliable and shouldn't be used as a method of contraception.

The rotten thing is that any attempt to give teenagers access to proper contraception in the UK is met with much wailing and faux moralising from the media and then people wonder why this sort of rubbish catches on!

You think that's bad? In Ireland they deny Girls the Cervix Cancer vaccine because they think it will make them more promiscuous.

Try and figure THAT one out.

That is sickening on so many levels. Do these people honestly think that fear of cancer should be used a tool in a campaign against sex? God forbid that teenagers should educated as well as possible and then be allowed to make their own decisions/mistakes.

That's like banning seatbelts on the grounds they may encourage reckless driving. Idiots.

In my experience, schools down here are fanatical about STD protection. Every 2-3 years we have a couple of Sex Education sessions teaching us about contraception and how important cervical cancer shots are (girls at my school get them for free).

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

Thankfully Sex education in the UK is on the whole excellent such progressive stances are commonplace. It's just a real shame that evrey positive step is greeted with misguided and ill-informed horror by right wing tabloids.

I like this guy’s quote from the page...

In other news, drivers who don't use seat belts, and motorcyclists who don't wear helmets, have been found to be perfectly safe. "Well, they're still alive, so whatever they're doing, it seems to be working out just fine," said Rachel Jones, a senior research associate at the Guttmacher Institute in New York.

It made me LOL...

This reminds me of Sex ed back in high school.... we had a day or so of a crazy lady telling us if we did it our nuts would fall off and we would go blind and die from censer....
Then we had 2 weeks of another lady telling us everything in the bible is a lie, god doesn’t exist, and we should go out and have sex as long as we use a rubber and or she is on the pill...

It’s a shame that every positive step towards education is greeted with a misrepresentation of Christian and or conservative values...

But hay, the world keeps getting more liberal and liberal, and as we see all around us it keeps getting better and better..... Wait, what?

Neither Hitler nor Stalin had anything to do with liberalism. To keep it very simple, Stalin was a communist and Hitler was a facist. Both of these theories hold core ideological tenants (the march of history and the greatness of the nation) as greater than any lesser consideration, like the rights of individual citizens. In contrast (and again this is keeping it very simple) liberalism hold individual rights and freedoms as the most important goal.

In summary, your statement above was absolute nonsense.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

Yeah, there’s that. There are also the typical problems of relying too heavily on the right/left political model. It’s a good, simple model but there are too many situations where it doesn’t work for it to be used haphazardly. Assuming that communism and liberalism are related because they’re both on the left is a common mistake (so Obama as a pro-business centrist with moderately progressive social platforms is exaggerated into a communist, when the basic concepts of communism have nothing to do with anything Obama has said), assuming fascism and conservatism are related is another (go to any student rally to see conservatives somehow called fascists). These things are all very different philosophies.

In my experience (in the United States), "liberal" usually just refers to whatever policies of the Democrats favor at the time. Or whatever policies have been randomly declared "liberal" by its advocates.

There are quite a few people I've met who consider themselves to be "liberal" but have, in my opinion at least, little respect for individual rights and freedoms. (The people who want to ban french fries, for example.)

I know it's different in Europe.

:EDIT: I agree on the Left/Right political model as well. (I think it's long since outdated, honestly.)

Pulling out is better than not pulling out, but it offers no protection against STDs.

Women don't get pregnant every single time they have sex. There are several days a month when a woman is most fertile. If you have sex at another time, the chance of pregnancy is much reduced. That's the rhythm method.

Yeah, there’s a lot of confusion about what liberal means. Admittedly in political science there are a lot of different meanings for liberalism (because personal freedom can mean free to trade as one wishes, or freedom from oppression, and following either will produce very different policies). But among the world of people who argue politics, liberal can mean anything, and rarely does that new meaning have anything to do with anything that could coherently be called liberal. It is either a good thing, and therefore represents anything the user considers good, or it is a bad thing, and therefore represents everything the author thinks is bad.

:EDIT: I agree on the Left/Right political model as well. (I think it's long since outdated, honestly.)

It was only ever a shorthand, even when describing the politics of Revolutionary France it was only ever useful in shorthand.

That said, it has a place, when discussing politics pretty close to the centre, and looking just at economic and social policy it isn't so bad. Anything more than that and yeah, it starts to become pretty wonky.

My best friend uses this method more than any other and hasn't had any problems.

The stranger part is she's told me some of the guys she's been with were eager to do it.

It's like every other method out there. Every method has a chance of failure, this is no exception. So after several broken condoms and complications from the pill this one is the most comfortable and has had the least side-effects and pregnancy scares.

*shrugs*

Use whatever you feel like using. Whole debate is silly imo.

Yerrrs, well, pulling out at the last minute and thanking the lady in a different way is a standard part of porn movies.

Your friend will be fine until she gets pregnant or catches something. Which hopefully won't happen, hopefully.

Working in a hospital and generally seeing the people that come in here pregnant or when I see their age while looking them up for visitor's I'd have to say that the youngest person I know of having a kid while I've worked here is 14 years old. Usually the age falls between 16 and 35 from what I've noticed, with a large number being between 16 and 25.
