So, I'm working on building my first IG list of 5th edition. My old 4th edition IG army was mainly a gun line, with some deepstriking goofiness, but I've decided to move to a more mechanized force in 5th. Below is what I've come up with so far. Most of the weapon and special weapon choices are limited by models on hand, ie. I don't have any more meltaguns at the moment. The cash I do have available for new models has gone/is going into more vehicles.

I'm aiming for a 1750 list for now. Due to the aforementioned model limitations, I'm pretty set on the equipment of the veteran squads, and I'm limited in what I can add to the infantry squad as far a special weapons. I do have other HWTs available.
I'm just not sure what I should be equipping the infantry platoon with, and where my remaining points should go. Another squad in the platoon? A second light-weight CCS? Gear upgrades for what I've already got?
Also, would I be better off running the Russes as a squadron, or separately? Same question for the Valks. I'm also tempted to use a standard Hellhound instead of the Banewolf.
Any input would be appreciated
Edit: While funny, a Chemo Cannon is not the same as a Chem Cannon...

That's an option I'd definitely considered...but I'm not sure that 3 BS3 lascannon shots are all that helpful for that price. Then again, I'm really have no idea how much tank spam I'm likely to see. I do keep thinking that maybe I should go with autocannons instead of heavy bolters, though, too.

I'd drop the multi-rocket pods in favor of more hellstrike missles and add a Psyker Battle Squad in a chimera. Have fun converting some, I did!

For the infantry squads I would take Autocannons instead of HB's for the chance to pop most light armor. Take away the PF from the Flamer vet sarge, PF's on IG are a waste of points imho. Also, swap the plasma vet squad for meltas (I know you don't have the models but truthfully you could just model some Meltaguns ex. make them look like one)
Idk about giving your LR's PC sponsons.... Its a lot of points that maybe with the extra 50 could go into another FA choice like a Devildog or Hellhound.

Killing power. 8/3 templates? yes please! in ideal circumstances, not getting shot to hells that is, you unleash 4 8/3 templates by the end of turn 2. After the missles have all fired off the valks drop in target priority, allowing them a better oppurtunity to score/contest latder in the game.

They don't use a template, they are ordnance HK.

I don't much like your platoon, nor do I like the Flamer and GL Veteran Units. If you're going to take Vets you should take full advantage of their BS4 by giving them the hardest hitting ranged weapons you can give them (meltas or Plasmas).
The Platoon is decent if you blob the infantry squads I guess. I'd probably switch their guns to Autocannons and get a Commisar for one of the units so they get those nice LD/Morale bonuses when blobbed up. Either way, the platoon feels VERY out of place since your army is otherwise completely mechanized. It also doesn't pack enough punch to really be scary. Is your plan to use it as a buffer zone in front of your tanks to deny your opponents half range with their melta weapons until the platoon is dead? I can see limited merit in doing this, but it seems to be more matchup dependent than anything. I'd also switch that PCS around to be 4x Flamer mounted in a Chimera. It clears things off of your lines very effectively.
I'd give that Valk either MRPs or switch it over to a Vendetta (personally, I'd absolutely go with the Vendetta though, you could use a couple more lascannons to pressure enemy armor from range).

I would say mount up your CCS in a Chimera (unless your throwing them in one of the Valks). Blob up your Infantry squads. Do the AC swap that Caffran9 suggests and add Plasma Guns, as well as the reshuffle of the PCS. 4 flamer templates is always such a nice feeling. This will help you handle light armor and MEQ. S7 with range is always a good thing.
That should get you up around 1750.

I wouldn't bother with Plasma Guns on joe dirt BS3 guardsman, its a 15pt weapon that only hits 1/2 the time. That is just unexciting. If you want to give normal infantry squads special weapons Grenade Launchers and Flamers are ideal for the points. I just struggle with finding efficiency in spending high points on a weapon for a BS3 model. BID makes it better, but it doesn't get used against enemy infantry and stuff, so it is of limited use.

I agree, but I really wasn't kidding: I'm out of models, I'm out of special-weapons bits, I'm out of bits that could be decently converted to special weapons, and I'm out of cash for the moment. Down the road, I definitely plan on adding more melta/plasma to the vet squads. For the moment, though, I'm trying to build the best list I can from what I currently have.
I do have plenty of heavy-weapon bits, so I do think I'll make the change-over to Autocannons in the platoon squads.
Also, the CCS and the vet squad without a Chimera are going to be riding in the Valkyries.
The only reason I can think of for wanting to squadron the Russes would be to take even more advantage of the Inquisitor and Mystics versus a deepstrike-heavy army.
The platoon is mainly for holding whatever objective happens to be closest to my board edge, and, in situations where my Russes don't need to be too mobile, perhaps providing an assault screen for them
The sergeant in the flamer vet squad has a PF because I figure it is the squad most likely to actually assault another infantry group. As crappy as a PF is on guard, relative to a PF on just about anything else, it's still a hidden strength-6, nor armor save weapon for 15 points.
Now, if I stripped the PF off of that sergeant, and the plasma pistol off of the sergeant in the plasma vet squad, I could add a third squad to the platoon, and have the platoon set up like this:
PCS w/ 4 flamers
3x squads with Autocannon, one with commissar, blobbed
and that would put me at 1749 points.
On the other hand, part of me is tempted to find enough bits to convert into a Hydra, and just add that. 4 TL Autocannon shots sounds like fun.

Swap out the heavy bolter on the chem-hound for a Heavy flamer. That will make it FAR more effective as it gives the potential to throw out 2x the wounds and is death incarnate against non marines. Automatically Appended Next Post: I'm shocked to be asking this, but given your limitations I will. Do you have any grenade launchers? You can put them in the auto cannon squads for a little more punce on the cheap side.

Look in the back of the book, every Ordnance weapon states what blast template it uses, except the Hellstrike Missile. Nowhere in the book does it ever mention it using a blast template. So it is just a HK with 2d6 pick the highest armour penetration, that you can only fire once per turn.
