Has anyone else been following this so far then?

I'd say if you're even slightly into cricket you want to catch some of the games or better still go see it live. Some of the best cricket I have seen for a long time.

Twenty twenty is growing more and more on me, as unlike football you're almost guaranteed to see some decent action. No chance of the bore you'll get at a no score draw down the football. Although saying that i wouldn't want it to kill off test cricket, but given the choice between the two, I'm not so sure I'd go with the tests anymore.

You poms are going down this year. Us Aussies will crush your puny tea and crumpets beneath our sun-baked boots.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

It's on pretty late here in Oz, could watch the replays but watching cricket delayed makes no damn sense.

Happy to say I was right about India fizzing, too many of their better players had mediocre IPL tournaments. I backed Pakistan, and while I haven't been proven completely wrong just yet, they keep threatening to make a fool of me. Surprised to see England doing as well as they are, but happy to see them picking a proper team of specialists, and not another team with four odd guys that are almost bowlers and almost batsmen.

The Aussie fizzle was a product of confused selection policy, going back a few years now. I think they're doing well to rebuild the test team but they've still got no clue how the one day and test teams are supposed to work.

Still, looks to have been a pretty good tournament so far, plenty of upsets and close games.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

I'm guessing you're talking about the ashes. As you've already been murked in this competition.

England have been all over the place. A few good perfomances but a defeat to the netherlands and complete massacre at the hands of south africa. I do wonder why we can't play like we did against india yesterday all the time.

Also what's the australian view on twenty20? I know it's not as popular over ther. What do you think to chris gayles coments about scraping test matches alltogether.

Maybe its just a case of lowered expectations. After so many meek performances in the big tournaments, all over the place looks like a significant improvement. At least this time you can say there's batting in the top order that can consistently post good scores.

It's popular here. It sells out every international, and is the only form of domestic cricket that people go to watch. But we don't win 20/20 that often, and it is starting to create an attitude of 'it isn't real cricket'. If we start winning at it it'll get popular very quickly.

Gayle's comments had mixed reception. There was a lot of comments about how it reflected the sad state of West Indies cricket (should a captain ever be talking about not wanting to play?) There was a certain mood of fine, let 'em go, the only worthwhile test tours are England, South Africa and India anyway. But most of the commentary was about concern for test cricket, which to be honest is a little exaggerated in my opinion, as there is near universal opinion that there is too much one-day cricket being played. I think it most likely that the splurge of one-day tournaments will be cut before the tests are.

Australia should not have sent Symonds home the week before the comp.

Great idea sending the best 20/20 player in the world last year because he went to a pub and watched the state of origin and didn't sign out. He didn't get drunk, he didn't fight anyone, he didn't even swear.

Well, I have been following it, but not often, it just isn't as fun as the 1st one or the IPL for some reason :?

But anyway, it has been good cricket, and I am supporting the South Africans, and mainly the Minnows that play against the big teams, i like to see the underdogs win

Well it looks like india take it seriously. Not only did their fans outnumber the home crowd last night (the english team, to their amusement even got booed onto the field) but check the reaction to the loss...

http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/cricket/fans-burn-effigy-after-india-loss-1705554.html
Angry fans burnt an effigy of India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni in his hometown of Ranchi following their early exit from the World Twenty20 in England.

The holders were eliminated from the competition by England yesterday after the hosts claimed a three-run victory in a thrilling contest.

The loss ended India's chances of progressing as they had already been beaten by West Indies in their first Super Eights match.

Afterwards, fans gathered on the streets of Ranchi, shouting slogans against Dhoni and burning an effigy of him.

Police have now stepped up security around the Indian skipper's house, fearing an attack.

In 2007, fans demolished a boundary wall at Dhoni's residence after India were eliminated in the first round in World Cup in the Caribbean.

Several cricket supporters later offered to rebuild the wall when Dhoni led India to victory in the World Twenty20 tournament in South Africa that same year.

When I saw this post, I thought you meant 20/20, like the news show. I was very intrigued.

Now when I get here, I am very let down.....
