New to Orks and was wanting to see what peoples reactions were to Kommandos and the Deff Stompa?
Are they worth the points?
Would the HS slots would be better used for Battlewagons and such?
Are Kommandos good on their own or are they better w/ Boss Snikrot?
For Burnas and Lootas, is there a real need to take more than one Mek?
Sorry. Just getting into my Orks and wanted to get some input about some of the Orky options. Thanks.

In my experience:
Lootas should be 15 to a squad and no Mek. Mek takes away one d3 shot, and you need all the shots you can get.
I love snikrot with my commandos, if not for his s6 attacks on the charge that will get you something against most artillery tanks, then taking 2 burnas and clearing out some high profile units that are hiding in the middle (IG command squads, heavy weapons, devastators, ect).
Did you mean Deff Stompa or Deff Dread?
Stompa, go for the Mek one, loads more fun.
Dread, go with CCW and Flamer (or all CCW)
I like killa kan mobs myself loaded with KMB. Takes advantage of the bs3, and ignores gets hot.

That depends on the way you use Burnas. Lootas are more versatile, true, but Burnas rule in a Speed Freekz army. Joined by a KFF Big Mek and placed in a Battlewagon, they can roll around the battlefield laying up to sixteen S4 AP5 templates on enemy units from any point on the wagon (the maximum mob size is fifteen, but it's a good idea to give the Mek a Burna too). What's that? A Flyrant's coming for the wagon? Have all the Burnas disembark and cut it to pieces...with all those power weapon attacks, you have to roll enough fives (Big Mek) or sixes (the mob) to wound it sometime.

Deff dreads work well in conjunction with a kan wall and Mek w/ KFF. I usually arm mine with 2 CCW and 2 scorchas.
It really comes down to how you are playng the army. A single battlewagon will take every lascannon on the table to the face. Keep the old ork saying in mind. "Everything counts in large amounts.". If you take one BW might as well take 3.

Expect if you wanna save money for Lootas that is.
And you need lots of them. At least 15. Shame that you need to buy 4 boxes of them to get 15 Lootas, cause one of them must be built to Mek, cause there's no enough Deffguns. Right?
Deff Dreads can be very deadly with maximised DCCW and maybe one or two scorchas. Just give them some backup. they are gonna draw a lot of fire (from my experience).

Give the "Mek" the big shoota and grab your bitz bag... (no no, the other one...). A few missiles, targeters, or spare guns from other armies and you've got a proper home made deff gun. (Spare Tau guns work great for this, especially burst cannons and fusions). Now you only need 3 boxes to make a squad of 15 lootas. For extra credit you can attach the burnas to torsos and legs from regular boyz, and have the 12 burnas needed to fill up a trukk from the same boxes.

Welcome to the best army in 40k. Here's advice: Orks are better at everything than any other army, but only one at a time. Make a shooting army, or an assaulting army, but don't try both; mechanized or foot slogging, but not both. Things like that. Lootas are awesome in a shooting army, where your army consists of 45 Lootas, a few kans or Deff dreads packing long range heat, mek's with shokk attack guns pumping out 60" large blast templates, and the lootas hiding in battlewagons chock full of weapons. You can outshoot a Tau or IG army.
On the flip side, Lootas don't belong in a speed freak, mechanized, or foot slogging list because they can't move and shoot.
Things like that will help you become a terrifying Ork player.

Thanks for the info. Alot to absorb.
One more question I have is about Mad Doc Grotsnik. I his ability to give all models the 5+ inv. worth the 5 point per model?
It sounds good that all models will get a save, but it is just a 5+ inv. And 5 points per model gets kinda expensive.
Any thoughts?

As a general rule, not worth it. Where this might come in handy is with Mega Nobs (Gives them 2+/5+ like a regular terminator, for about the same total cost too), Deff Koptas (expensive models to lose to one S8 AP4 or lower shot), and so on. Cybork armor is a default for me with any highly valuable squad I can put it on (which isn't a very long list). Grotsnik is the only way to get that into squads that can't have a Painboy upgrade.

Makes since about getting units an inv that would not normally get one. Now is his ability to make his unit Fearless a good thing or not? A unit of Fearless Nobs would make most armies crap themselfs. IMHO

Not such a big deal. A full squad of 10 Nobs + any character = fearless already from mob rule. Nobs shouldn't ever be footslogging or caught without a bosspole, so if you actually have to worry about your nobs running away, you've got major problems that even Grotsnik can't sew back up..

Personally, I think Grostnik with a Mega Nobz unit is worthwhile. Give them FNP. Being Fearless makes up for not having a bosspole in the unit. Plus, the unit can buy cybork bodies (not that he has be attached to the unit to do that).

No real reason for that bosspole, since as it has been previously noted in this thread, Grotsnik (and thereby the attached unit) is fearless.

Bingo!
With the exception of Nob Mobs, EVERY Nob you buy should have a bosspole... and even a couple Nobs in that Nobs Mob should have them.

Nope.... you can only include one of each unique character, not just one unique character, period.

19 'ard boys and the mad doc in a BW has amused me on a number of occasions.
Other fun but reckless units:
Vulcha Boyz with whats-his-name special nob. Assault on a deepstrike, (loose d3 boyz, but never lost more than 2 myself), and In order PK? Totally makes people crap their pants. Fun for the whole family.
Massed Killa Kan and Deff Dread Mobs. Expensive, but grouped with a KFF in a Truck (for 2 dread, 2 KKM) you have a clanking wall of steel with a 4+ cover save. Fun!
These units are really more for the "Holy crap why?!" factor, and not really intended for tourny play.
