I really would like to get into these games - even trading my 40k for them but you get a whole lot more for your money with 40k especially against BFG, Epic - i don't know, but there's no nice starter box unless you get something retro on flidbay - your thoughts??

BFG is a lot cheaper to get into, especially Chaos and Imperials, since they still have plastic cruisers available.

Epic might be being killed, so I'd hold off on that. But it might be getting relaunched, too. Forge World pulled a few Epic items, maybe it is being killed, maybe they are going plastic. I'm hoping plastic.

BFG is an awesome game system, me nd my mates love it, but i still ike 40k aswell as it has a completely different feel to it.

I've nevere been sure of epic tbh so i couldnt really help.

But BFG is not incredibly expensive as you really only want 1500 point games to keep them short enough which in some cases is not a huge amount of ships.

BFG is a great game, especially for the money.

Even all-metal fleets like Orks & Eldar are quite reasonable, especially off eBay or other secondhand sources.

I don't know BFG so i just assumed that you needed many large ships and smaller craft (which cost a bomb altogether) but am i right i thinking that you don't need that much??

Educate me please - i'm really interested in it.

nah, a standard 1500 point fleet on average will be 3-6 cruisers, 0-2 battle cruisers and 0-1 battleship, then a few escorts to hash it out.

i LOVE bfg, i dont get to play nearly enough as i would like to. i have 2 fleets, and ork fleet and an adeptus mechanicus fleet.

what fleet are you looking into?

There ain't nearly enough Salvage in this thread!

I have nearly all-Cruiser Imperial and Chaos fleets, and they were very reasonable to acquire. I have an escort-heavy Eldar fleet, acquired secondhand or discount.

I haven't bought BFG in a while, so I don't know how much worse pricing may have gotten. But it shouldn't be too bad, especially if you focus on the plastic Cruisers.

Well everything you need is on GW suprisingly

if you go to the GW resources they have all the rules and ships lists etc. I'm not sure but i think you have to order the kits from the website, im not entriely sure if they sell them instore atm.

BFG would break me as the only race I'd play is Tau and the only good looking Tau ships come from forgeworld.

oh.. thanks, but there is a fleet rule book too - don't think thats free. Does GW making things free mean the gradual run down then deletion of this game??

No, the specialist Games (Inquisitor, BFG, Bloodbowl etc) have been free downloads for years now.

To be fair you can get a couple of cruiser for about 10 - 15 quid off workshops, if you get say 2 - 3 boxes of this, 1 Battleship about £25 quid, couple of Dauntless Light Cruisers (cant remember the prices for these) and 2 blisters of Cobra Class Escorts (the little torpedo boats) thats an entire fleet for round about £75 - £85 (and thats from Workshop!) not bad really for what will end being around a 1500pt fleet which is more than enough to begin playing gothic, use that as a price guide and if things go for too much on FeeBay don't bother buying it your paying too much.

Nah, it only cosats around 20-30 bucks to get into BFG.

You don't need alot of ships to begin with, they are realativly cheap on the second hand market, and the rules are located at the Specialist Games- GW main site.

Some ships can be made out of your scrap box, as well.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

No worries I am here.

BFG is my favourite GW game, or was it old school Talisman, anyway.

The game has a number of advantages, first while there are some mismatches between some fleets, orks vs eldar or eldar vs necrons come to mind, there is nevertheless a fairly promisingly blanace bwtween the units amnd fleets, few are obvious choices either for or against. Second the game is cerebral, once you have your list you will need to use it properly, you can gein superior firepower, resilience or mobility for your ships, but the bonuses are mutually exclusive this leads to interesting tactical choices absent from most Gwe games.
Third the fleets look great and are simple to collect and paint, they are also cheap if you buy them second hand. This leasd to the systems only real downside, it has limited attraction, even those who like it dont play often but this dioes mean you can opick up a fleet for a fraction of shop value on eBay or Bartertown.

If you pick a provisional favourite fleet I would have happy to give you a run down on what it can do and how. Best do this on the BFg forum here which is tucked away s part of the general other SF games forum.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion. By the juice of the brew my thoughts aquire speed, my mind becomes strained, the strain becomes a warning. It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion.

BFG is awesome! and it is the cheapest game to play for GW. You only need like... 4-8 ships to actually play
