Hello, this is my first 1500 army list, so help me if I make any obviously terrible choices.
I put the upgrades in (parenthesis)
1492 points total
Troops
24 slugga boys (Nob, PK, bosspoll)=184
24 slugga boys (Nob, PK, bosspoll)=184
24 slugga boys (Nob, big choppa, bosspoll)=164
Elite
11 kommandos (2 burnas, Snikrot)=225
8 nobs (painboy, 8 cybork, 1 PK, WAAAGH banner, 2 big choppas, 2 twin linked shootas, bosspoll)=295
Fast Attack
7 deffcoptas=245
HQ
1 Warboss ( PK, squig, cybork)=110
1 Big Mek ( KFF)=85
Im not sure how to group the deffcoptas, and before ripping my list to shreds, tell me how I can improve it, preferably without having to buy loads of new orks. I have a spare wierdboy, 1 extra deffcopta, 6 big shoota boys, and a few extra nobs to customize, so those are the items of choice to swap in. All C&C welcome.

Change the slugga squad with the choppa into a squad of as many shoota boys as possible. Add their Nob to the Nob squad.
Make your nobs count as troops. It lets them score.
Give them power klaws! They are your only reliable AT!
You could probably drop the koptas for that.

Orks can do anything that any other army can do and do it better than they can. However, they cannot do everything that any other army can do. Make sense? If you make an ork assault army, they'll out-assault any other army in 40k. If you make a shooting army, you can outgun IG or Tau. If you go foot-slogging, or mechanized, or kan-wall....all those options make you a completely awesome army, but there's a catch. You can only do one of them at a time with an army list.
If you combine a mechanized and a foot-slogging list, you're going to lose. If you have part assault, party shooting, you're probably going to lose. Your strength is in being able to pick something and be completely awesome at it. So before giving you advice on where to go next with your army, you need to pick a theme and build around it. If you want a bike army, or a shooting army; an outflanking army, mechanized, assault, figure out what your playstyle is and start building your units and armylist around that idea.
THAT is the strength of Orks.
When you decide what you want your army list to be, start by explaining what your intent is, then post an army list along those lines and we'll work from there and make suggestions.
Deffkoptas can only come in units of 5, I typically take 2-3 per unit. Your kommandos, boyz...max them out. You *need* to max them out; that's the whole strength of Orks...numbers. Don't give up your main advantage before you even get to the table.

Dash says it best. Orks will do anything as long as you pick one. The best is to make a foot slogger army and watch your opponent try to figure out what to do. Your opponent will seem to be ADD by shooting at your entire army. PS take snikrot to really throw your opp. off.

Thanks Dash, Im aiming at a footsloggin army, so I guess my best bet is buying more slugga boys? My plan with the three slugga boy squads is to set them up in waves. The squd with a big choppa nob in the front to provide cover saves for the squads in the back, and if it gets blown away, I would only lose a big choppa nob instead of a PK.
I really like the nobs and kommandoes, so I guess I will max out the kommando squad. I was aiming for an effective nob squad, while keeping it fairly inexpensive pointwise, but im thinking of adding another PK to increase anti tank/teminator reliability.
If I go with two squads of 3 deffcoptas, I would have 43 free points. Maxing out the kommando squad would put me at 1497 points. After that, Im not sure what to drop so I can add more boyz...
I was thinking if I do add more boyz, it would be to the 2 squads of boyz with PK nobs. Would big shootas work wellt in the back squads, or is that avoiding cc focus?
Thanks again for advice! More is welcome.

id say get rid of copters, boss, kommandoes and replace with kans and shootas and 2 force fields. that way the hole footsloggers can stay in two huge groups and be in cover. thats what i do atleast. and i only say get rid of copters b/c ive never personally used them so if they work out keep them. kommandoes to me are overly price boys thatll die in a few seconds.
