Ok so me and this other person were watching 300 and we decided we going to make a squad of 30 spartan orcs for my orcs and goblins army. not wanting to spend $70 to get orcs boys from gw >:O... we bought 30 spears off ebay and imma just cut up mah boys... anyhow. so we are giving them spears, we already have shields (made out of round bases and greenstuffed V's onto them) and they are roughly half the size of an orc just like in the movie... we are going to green stuff cloaks onto them (doing it atm actually). we are also each greenstuffing buffed out ab's (w/e spelling is) onto front cause with their cloths they look like persions from movie. pants we are keeping on. we also want to make helmets for them however it would be far to hard. does anyone know of a place where we could buy scale spartan helmets? even ones that dont fit onto head is fine since we somewhat had the plan to make em look stuffed on in an orky hat fashion ... thoughts/comments?

Instead of the bases which dont look as round as im sure you want why not use drone tops? With very minimal conversions they could easily look like the shield your looking for.

Also I disapprove of this XD. granted it would look cool but its hypocritical. Orcs are chaotic. Spartans are as far from that as you could probably get in a warrior.

Orks arent chaotic... just beyond everyone else ... and true, but the shields that we made with the bases actually dont look bad... +the drones wouldnt be big enough... and we already made our current ones although that might be a good idea for gobo spartans

sounds fluffy enough to me - although I'd maybe play them as Black Orcs who are a bit more serious than the boyz.

Helmets could be a problem, at least for the buush/plume on top - some people have used the helmet plumes from one of the Eldar sets (Dire Avengers, from memory?), but that could get expensive. Shouldn't be that difficult to greenstuff though, especially for orcs who will presumably have stolen their helmet plums anyway

ah, i definitally agree on the black orc parts... however, they didint fit the picture... spartans wore like no armor... and black orcs dont have spears...

I also thought about making the savage orcs the 30 because they already have no cloths on (to an extend) but then i looked at their faces and remmember how dmb founded they look D:... and they all metal so hard to convert to spears... ah well

You gotta remember the fact that real Spartans were clad in heavy bronze armor. Sparta was located right inside a mountain there was plenty of metal to go around. If the real 300 Spartans (and the largely unknown 1000 other Greeks) went as they did in the movie they would of been utterly crushed. It's funny because the Persian immortals wore heavy armor when the best they had was cloth armor and shields. That's the reason i didn't care for the movie. Hollywood blew it way out of proportion. There were no Calvary, elephants, rhinos, bombs, etc just one massed infantry charge then the immortals the following day. Then the Persians found the trail around them.

It's Frank Miller's fault when he did the graphic novel on which the film is based - on the film's DVD he cheerfully admits the graphic novel (and therefore the film) aren't historically accurate, he was more interested in everything looking cool

Wait, so Hades you are upset that a movie that was based on a graphic novel that was losely based around a historical event that may or may not have been exagerated before the graphic novel even got to it.

I dunno, I loved the movie because it was so fantastically "hollywood" if they had gone half-arsed with it then it would have been horrible becuase of all the historical inconsistancies that would have picked it apart. As is not many people complain about it because its not supposed to be realistic or accurate.

THE HORUS HERESY: Emprah: Hours, go reconquer the galaxy so there can be a new golden age. Horus: But I should be Emprah, bawwwwww! Emprah: Magnus, stop it with the sorcery. Magnus: But I know what's best, bawwwwww! Emprah: Horus, tell Russ to bring Magnus to me because I said so. Horus: Emprah wants you to kill Magnus because he said so. Russ: Fine. Emprah's always right. Plus Ole Red has already been denounced as a traitor and I never liked him anyway. Russ: You're about to die, cyclops! Magnus: O noes! Tzeentch, I choose you! Bawwwww! Russ: Ah well. Now to go kill Horus. Russ: Rowboat, how have you not been doing anything? Guilliman: . . . I've been writing a book. Russ: Sigh. Let's go. Guilliman: And I fought the Word Bearers! Horus: Oh shi--Spess Puppies a'comin? Abbadon: And the Ultramarines, sir. Horus: Who? Anyway, this looks bad. *enter Sanguinis* What are you doing here? Come to join me? Sanguinius: *throws self on Horus's power claws* Alas, I am undone! When you play Castlevania, remember me! *enter Emprah* Emprah: Horus! So my favorite son killed my favorite daughter! Horus: What about the Lion? Emprah: Never liked her. Horus: No one does. Now prepare to die! *mortally wounds Emprah*Emprah: Au contraire, you dick. *kills Horus* Dorn: Okay, now I just plug this into this and . . . okay, it works! Emprah? Hellooooo? Jonson: I did nothing! Guilliman: I did more nothing that you! Jonson: Nuh-uh. I was the most worthless! Guilliman: Have you read my book? Dorn: No one likes that book. Khan: C'mon guys. It's not that bad. Dorn: I guess not. Russ: You all suck. Ima go bring the Emprah back to life.

You could try using the standard Ork Helmet Head (the one without horns). Just a little Greenstuff might help you get the Spartan Look.

300 was a great movie, history be damned.

As a child, Frank Miller loved the movie "The 300 Spartans" - good movie, check it out.
As an adult, he thought he's make an homage to it in a comic. Did you read that bit, Hades? A comic.

Zach Snyder then decided that he - being a big comics nerd - would create a movie from it.

So, a movie based on a comic, in turn based on another movie, based on an outlandishly exaggerated myth. And you're upset as it isn't historically accurate.

You know what, Pirates of the Caribbean, Mutiny on the Bounty and the Pirates of Penzance aren't accurate portrayals of the life on the sea in the 17th century either.
feth it, they're movies; not documentaries. Get over yourself.

I dunno...considering the battle of Thermopylae was an historical event and *not* a mythical one, I don't think Hades was out of bounds for mentioning a few gross inaccuracies. I mean, if someone made a movie about the Norman invasion and had Saxons fighting stark naked and doing kung-fu wire leaps with no one fighting in shield wall formation, I think it'd warrant a comment or two. And I don't see how the two situations are any different.

Personally, I consider the comic/movie as a fanciful artistic interpretation and don't sweat it. But I happen to think the real story is far more compelling, and also think it's a shame that there are now people believing the Spartans fought in their birthday suits hopping around like frogs.

For a fictionalized but more historically accurate story about the same battle, I recommend you check out the book "Gates of Fire" by Steven Pressfield. And getting this back on topic, it might give the OP some inspiration too.

Yes thats the response I thought i'd get. It's not that I have a problem with the movie, i just feel like the battle went so much deeper than just the three-hundred spartans and was disapointed knowing the actual history. I mean it wasn't even explained why the persians were there in the first place. Persia wanted to sack Athens because they helped a rebellion in the persian empire and an Athenian naval commander convinced the spartans to go to war, which was the real hero of the battle not Leonidas. Hell it wasn't even mentioned the great engineering feet of the persians who made a bridge using hundreds of old ships to cut their march time way down. But i suppose that was to make them less likable to make people wish to side with the spartans.

All in all, the post above was to tell him that actual spartans wore heavy armor so I think black ork models with greek helmets would look good.

Ok, since my project has been delayed :( i dont mind the current discussion... however as a response to Hades (and i know nothing about the history)

Youve got to realize its a move and just like turning books into movies, if they put in EVERYTHING... the movie would be like 4-5 hours at least and who would watch that? Not to mention they do it for the money not the historical stuff... so they only add in what they think youll like or thats what ive come to learn
