Feasting on the souls of unworthy opponents

Hey folks:

I'm trying to help a friend of mine make his 'Ard Boyz list; he's playing Deathwing from the Dark Angels codex.

I thought that terminators could take a land raider as a dedicated transport? There's nothing in his codex about it, which kind of miffs his ability to take terminators and/or land raiders without giving up other important things.

Nope, Deathwing Terminator Squads CANNOT take Dedicated Land Raiders, you have to use your Heavy Support slots.

On the Plus Side, he gets Deathwing Assault, which no-one else does. if he is Playing Pure Deathwing, what else is he gonna take from his HS anyway?

You are correct, the DA does not allow for LR as a dedicated transport. As a DA player myself I suggest you us the Vanilla marine codex to build the Deathwing. It is possible and probably more points efficent. They hosed the DA codex and there's no fix in the works so DA players will just have to endure. If you want to win, build vanilla marines. If you want fluff then go pure. There's no loss of honor in either. You wouldn't want to go into a war with a less effective weapon, why use the lesser codex? Apart from testing your ability as a commander?

Yes, because the Vanilla Codex lets you Field up to 11 Squads of Fearless Terminators, 6 of Which are Scoring units...

Oh wait.

If you wanna play RAVENwing or Doublewing, then use the Nilla codex, as you can take Bikes as Troops. If you want to play Deathwing, stay with the DA codex.

O H I am in the Webway...

Deathwing can take 11? 6 troop 3 elite? I don't think you can take any HQ deathwing command squads?

Anyway yeah for Deathwing I would highly reccomend using Daemonhunter and SoB allies to keep your mobility. Take you nice 3x DWT squads in LR's and then take some IST's or Dominions or something with meltaguns to take care of tanks. You can even get a chappy for your deathwing then go ahead and grab an inquisitor or BC with a psychic hood and tada.

He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster and if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you

Ok, my math was a little off, it's 9 Squads, But still, no other army can go that, let alone take 6 Scoring Units of them.

Can't Belial take a Command Squad? I remember toying around with the Deathwing in Army Builder, and it was an option. That doesn't mean it's legal per Codex, of course, as I know that Army Builder is a community-provided resource.

Belial can indeed take a commandsquad, but it is in PA, not terminator armour.

IRC, you can (or could, was a while ago I got mine) take a land Raider Prometheus as either a Transport for HQ or as an HQ slot. Does this still stand or have they changed the rules?
