Hi
I just got a Crisis suit today from a friend. They got it from another friend who had given up on 40k. I don't have any pictures of it before I started but it was badly painted and still mostly base coated. It looked like it had several different pain schemes tested on it and generally what a crappy model from Ebay would look like, it also had no feet. But, it was free and I only wanted it to see if my idea of a paint scheme would work so no complaints XD

As it had no feet I converted some smoke launchers from my Rhino into feet (Thats the slight conversion part). Anyway although it isn't painted properly, as I haven't worked on it for too long, I wanted to see what everyone thought of the paint scheme I decided to use for the Tau army I'm starting.

The metal could use with a badab black wash followed by a lightlight - either than that, the red looks great (but im not too solid on the feet)

Hmm. The concept is ok, but I think it needs a lot of tidying up. The metal is too heavy for a drybrush and too light for a solid colour. I second the wash advice from above.

I think the red could do with a tidy and maybe a wash to shade the gaps between armour plates.

Unfortunately I think the feet look a bit too dodgy. Can you bulk up some toes at all?

The shortened Fusion Gun is pretty neat, but you could do with drilling the barrels out. A pin vice is a present that will keep on giving, so you should get one ASAP

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

Here's a quick question- are you set on using red and metallic? I think it works, but it would be really striking with red, black, and the bits of yellow. You could always edge it with some grey if you want more, but this would be easier to paint (since I'm thinking black will be your undercoast) and give a more striking appearance overall, I think.

Definitely not bad, I'd love to see what you do with a "fresh" model

You can tell its been painted a few times (anyone seen that Emperors pointy sticks comic?! MAN that one is hilarious) anywho, I like the colors scheme. I also like the feet too. Clever way to get some feet on there.

Thanks for the relplies. I might give the ink a go, but usually I try to paint the models without using ink at all.

Yeah, I'm kind of set on using those colours. My Space Marines army used to be that colour before I changed it to white and blue. So I wanted to try something different from that. Then remembered that old paint scheme. It didn't look that great on the Space Marines, but I like how it looks. As for why not black, my brother plays black and red orks. With a lot of scab red on the weapons and really any thing sharp on them. The idea for the feet was that they both basically looked the same. I don't intend to spend a lot of time on this one as it's really just a test for the colour scheme.

I'm not a fan of a lot of metallics on Tau for some reason. I like the red, black, and yellow suggestion. However, it seems you've got your mind set on the colour scheme... so why bother asking for opinions?

I guess it was to get a general opinion for the paint scheme. The only colours I said I wanted to stay away from were blue, white and black. It was also to get suggestions for where I placed the colours on it. If it wasn't so great I would have tried the colours in different places. Also now that I remember, I have though about using scab red for the fabric on the Firewarriors. Anyone think that will look alright with the colours there at the moment, or should I look for another colour that isn't a red?
