So I've recently gotten my valks/vend's put together and am going to start trying them out in some games. My current plan is to stick 3 vendetta's in my current guard list (dropping my 2 devil dogs and bane blade). However I find myself wanting to put something/anything inside of the vendetta. I'm just not sure if it's worth the points, especially if you only plan on moving a vendetta 6 inch's per turn. Right now my plan is to stick a pcs with flamers and 2 sws with flamers in the vendetta, it's fairly cheap and gives me some anti-horde in-case someone gets to my lines.

But we've got lots of vend/valk weapon loadout's.

Vendetta, no upgrades and Vendetta w/ heavy bolters
These are both basically the same, you only want to move 6 a turn to maximize fire output. My current thought is to either leave them empty and they can pick up someone else whose ride gets blown or put something cheap and anti-horde in them in case something makes it to your lines.

Valkryie w/ rocket pods
I see this as being the best option for loading troops in it. You get to fly around at 12 inch's getting your transported squads towards the enemy and then unload on them. I think anti-tank units like veterans or command squads compliment this best.

Valkryie w/ rocket pods, heavy bolters
But for only 10 more points I can add 6 heavy bolter shots! This thing I think puts down some absolutely horrendous anti-light infantry firepower. I think it will also be better paired with anti-tank, i mean who needs more anti-infantry with a beast like that.

Valkryie w/ heavy bolters, Valkryie w/ no upgrades
This one was made specifically to deliver something to the enemy. The question here is what would you deliver? Melta vet squads? Suicide sws squads. The problem here is that the majority of things that go in the valk are scoring and you don't want to throw away all of your scoring units.

For anti-infantry loadouts I like:
Special Weapon Squads with 3 flamers
Platoon Command Squads with 3 flamers

For anti-tank loadouts I like:
Company Command Squad w/ 4 meltas
Veterans w/ 4 meltas
Al Rahem w/ 4 meltas

For a more general purpose build I like:
Infantry Squad w/ flamer, krak grenades
Veteran Squad w/ heavy flamer, 2 melta guns
Company Command Squad w/ heavy flamer, 2 melta guns
Veteran Squad w/ heavy flamer, 2 melta guns, demo charges

So do people have other favorites? Should we just not put anything in them to make them less of a target? Or should we base it on the rest of your army loadout. Obviously if you are trying to do air cav they will all have someone, but for the lists that are using 2-3 what is everyone putting in them?

Game over man.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

I have tried a lot of different load outs in the Vendettas I run and so far Melta Vets have proved to be the best bet.

In games where you face a lot of armor they are well worth their points and then some. If you get first turn you just Scout move up 24' then move 12 and drop your Vets out; by by tanks. If you get second turn just outflank with them.

Even in games where you don't see a lot of armored targets they can prove to be slightly useful. Against foot slogging Hordes with big MC's they can lay down a fair amount of AP1 wounds and if some Terminators decide to show up 2 BS4 Melta shots never hurt.

In the end in boils down to personal preference. However, with 5th Edition being so tank heavy it seems like your best bet.

Nothing wrong with sticking a scoring unit inside to just make the vendetta a scoring unit.

Why does my eldar army run three fire prisms? Because the rules wont let me use four in (regular 40k).

What kinds of grey knights. What load outs. This is mainly to discuss the options everyone has tried out.

I have had decent luck so far with a lightly kitted squad of sisters. Slightly more expensive than vets, a lot more survivable and coupled with orders and faith, can do a decent job at anti-infantry.

CCS with meltas and vets with meltas are the units that pack my Valk/Dettas these days. The vet unit doesn't really get out much unless I really need something dead, or it is very late and I need to land on an objective (but then I have only 3 scoring units in my army so I need to protect them more than most).

I also put an IQ/Mystics in one as well, which makes the reach of the Mystics really stupid since it measures from the edges of the massive print of the Valk. Against deepstrike heavy armies a Valk/Detta with an IQ/Mystics flying cover in the front of my army basically denies enemy deepstrikers all of their preferred close range/high threat landing zones for fear of taking 7 plasma cannons and a demolisher cannon in the face for free

PCS w/ flamers. A useless unit turned pure awesome. On the field it will evaporate under any amount of fire, instantly loosing its (either) useful order or flamers on the first casultie. In a vendetta - if theres nothing to shoot at/its stunned then it can turbo-boost near some troops, unload 5 guys which will only very occasionally suffer a dangerous terrain wound, and flamer somthing to death.

Somthing troop, atleast.

I have had great luck with the following.

Vendetta: Basic infantry squad with flamer, Krak, Meltabomb.

If you want to see how well this can do take a look at the bat reps of the recent 2250 torunament I won in which these simple grunts were one of my most reliable performers.

Valkyrie: Alternatively Inquisitor / Mystics for the awesome footprint or

Veterans, 2x melta, 1x Heavy Flamer, Demolitions

This nasty little unit does it all and the meltabombs make up for the moderate effectiveness of only having two meltaguns. The only problem with them is that the demo charge can make it too tempting to play them early and get them killed needlessly. If they hit the ground properly though they are flat out devastating!!!

I like Inquisitorial Stormtroopers for this role.

70 points for 5 guys and 2 meltaguns. If going first, deploy forward and move 24" with your scout move. On turn 1 you can drop the boys off, move, and blast away. Amazing for an alpha strike against something that needs to be eliminated.
