So here we go.

My friend and I were having a pretty good laugh over this model. The design is just way too trick or treat, and I can't imagine why they did this to such an awesome HQ unit. I don't play SM, but salamanders would be the army I would play, and who the hell is this guy at the head of my force??? Cross-eyed and everything... I'll use him as a counts as "CAPTAIN CROSS-EYED".

TRICK OR TREAT @%#$!!!

I will eat you. (Said in a calm and burning tone)

No, again I find myself agreeing with Wrex, I gotta stop doing that!

That mini can look better, but there are some things on it that just make it look goofy. The flame deal on top is just strait weird looking. I think they could of done a better job putting the heavy flamer on him. In that area of the model alone,m it looks way over crowded. I do however like the way hes actually holding the spear. It should be raised a little higher, it just makes the mini look to stiff. And I know the Salamanders have that whole scale thing going on, but the loin cloth doesnt do it for me.
Its weird because Ive never bashed a mini so badly before, and I almost feel bad doing it. I think I blame DAKKA for that tho. Ive seen some scratch builds of this mini from folk on here, and theirs is WAY better looking. BLAST YOU DAKKA!!!!

I agree with Wrex as well. That model sucks.

More importantly, I feel the Space Marines have become more gaudy and ostentatious through the years (well, special characters anyway). I miss the old Beakies. Simple, clean, to-the-point and somewhat tactical (more so than a giant gold eagle on your chest). I'd love to see a box of 30 Beakies like in the old days in modern scale and detail plastic. Of course it'd cost $60us at least but so what.

Must be an Ork thing. I agree on the special characters as well. My god do they really need all that shiny, metal, dangling bling on?!? Calgar just looks ridiculous. He has so much crap on his chest, it almost drowns out his dual fists lol

I kind of like the model. He'll go great with "Mr. So You Think You Can Dance" (Chaplain Xavier) for my budding Sallies army.

LMAO.

Great responses, I cant imagine why they chose to put this mini out. It looks like a test model or something. The drawing looks a thousand times cooler, and it is not all that different overall. The mini just has this rushed, odd, and constrained feel; like his suit is oversized or something. Vulkan is actually an eldar, and you can tell .

removing the flaming dagron from his backpack as well as the silly looking purity seals on the spear makes him a much better model IMO. Have you seen the other angles of the model? It actually has a good amount of motion to it when you see him from the side.

I'm kinda lost on the cross eyed comment. How does a helmet with no pupils look cross eyed?

Feel free to post some if you find them.

This is the GW picture used solely for review purposes.

On marketing grounds alone, this is one of the worst models on the site... it is just that bad. Storm guardians for instance... where the #$% is the description??? It baffles me that GW doesn't fix their mistakes, and I don't doubt this model CAN look good. It is pewter... so good luck changing it that much.

his eyes aren't as separate as normal SM helmets. They are the same overall length, they just kinda combine to give him a cyclopian/crosseyed look. You cant really tell until you compare.

I think the model has potential given the right paint. But at the same time, I think some of the parts need to be left off as well as filed smooth in some spots. Some part replacements could work nicely too. So as conversion fodder for 'count as' Vulkan's yes. As a stand alone, no.

in this thread on warseer there are links to alternate angle pics of vulkan

I think with a different paintjob and some of the extra stuff removed it will be a great model.

Yea in one of those, his spear looks like its up more then the GW picture. I agree this mini CAN look good. Id hack off the weird flame, either A get rid of the loin cloth, or B grind the scales off. Im not sure what to do with the hand/H. Flamer thing. It just looks to busy to me.

Personally i hate the model ( the details are fine , its the sculpt )

Ppl said its fine because the pose was supposed to be him lifting the spear ready to stab/ throw it.

Which is fine , but the thing sticking out of the spear should be accentuating the movement. But its not , if anything its not making sense with his movement,.
