Thinking about it and, if one should decide to dive in and invest in old Marneus (2500 points for 'Ard Boyz makes it more affordable), then here is what I would consider the ideal "delivery system:"

-LR w/ EA
-Honor Guard with Banner
-Epistolary w/ Termie Armor, Force Dome and Null Zone
-Marneus in Termie Armor

Now, said unit is exgregiously expensive, but it truly defines the "hammer" unit like, say, Biker Council or Biker Nobz.

With all this, Papa Smurf gets 7 WS6 S8 attacks on the charge, with rerolls to wound... basically, LR is going to ensure that he gets there, Honor Guard provides extra wounds at 2+ save and 5 extra PW attacks per man on the charge (plus an extra attack to MC and the Libby), Epistolary gives everyone 5+ Invul and makes Calgars attacks hit home even against Invul saves and provides a Force Weapon in a pinch

No shrike to give them fleet?

No Cantor to make your army stubborn and give all of that +1 attack?

Cantor and Chapter banner doesn't stack, he'd be useless, except maybe for stubborn, depending on how much you want it. Also, there's already 2 HQ so unless you're playing outside the force organisation chart, you can't buy shrike or cantor anyway. I think that a 5+invulnerable is more worthwhile than fleet anyway.

I am saying drop the Lib for Shrike, I can't imagine the lib will be more useful than fleet and great counter charge.

You lose the God of War ability on each unit that gains the fleet/stubborn.

stick with what you have, making them reroll invuls and getting a 5+ invul on your honor guard is great.

This unit looks great on paper, the only problem I can see is the land raider, and its sad being worried about an AV14/14/14 tank getting busted before you get there.

maybe fill your list with land raiders with assault termies to give them other scarey targets too. field 2 land raiders with assault termies and have calgars raider hide behind them to get an obscure save. lol.

Uhm, terminators already get a 5+ invulnerable save... Putting him in a squad of assault termies (understand honor guard keep him from being targetted in hand to hand, but he's really hard to kill) and you're cooking with more gass. Lets you get fleet with shrike if you drop the librarian, that means a cruising speed+deployment+run+assault move (12+2+1-6+6) of 21-26 inches. Tough to argue with that.

honorguard are not a retinue neither is a command squad for that matter. They both count as a KP, and Calgar can still be targeted in CC or completely avoided if you so choose. Also to the OP. I know this my sound odd, but what about drop podding calgar in with normal armor + the honorguard? Sure you won't get that first turn assault, but it could be really scary.
