Hey! I'm Steve and I'm fairly new to 40k. I've played a few times at friend's houses with borrowed armies, and I already own the Skull Pass box for fantasy (almost done painting) and the Assault on Black Reach box (almost new, about to start painting). My exposure to wargaming started long before my exposure to Warhammer, starting with playing some definite wargaming classics with my dad (old Avalon Hill and SPI games he's collected since he was a kid; he's published games and edited for gaming magazines). I have the mind for wargaming, just not a full 40k army.

I'm no stranger to painting, although m work has definitely improved sine I started in 6th grade. Jeez, some of those were ugly... For general reference, I use Testor's paints for the most part since they're already available from our model airplanes over here. I find GW names of colors to be incredibly frustrating and unhelpful when it comes to painting, but that's neither here nor there. XP My painting is particularly lacking in highlighting, but I'm sure that can be alleviated later.
